Families looking for primary school options across Brisbaneโs southside, Logan and Redlands often start by searching NAPLAN results. Academic data can be a useful reference point, but it is only one part of the picture when choosing the right school for a child.
This summary of top scoring schools for 2025 is just a guide to Year 5 NAPLAN results – not the overall quality of the school. We love a great school and we’re proud to be a part of the Brisbane educational community. If you’ve got a child starting school next year, or heading off to high school, Families Magazine provides you with the right information for making big parenting decisions.

Because peopleโs definitions of the Northside, Western Suburbs and Southside may vary, please check each list if you cannot find your school.

What do these primary school results actually tell parents?
Not all that much. Primary school performance based strictly on NAPLAN scores gives a very narrow view of the school as a whole. For most parents though, academic achievement in the school is one of the determining factors in making educational decisions. At Families Magazine we’re proud to support a holistic and comprehensive approach to choosing a school for your child.
What are my primary school options?
Most of the public schools listed have pretty strict catchment areas in place. School catchment information can be found here. If you’re considering a private school, you may be required to apply for a place in the year your child is born! Check out our Parent Fact Sheets for more information on school options.
How to Choose a GOOD School in Brisbane
But what you want to know RIGHT NOW is which schools are ‘good’ and which schools are not good. There are so many variables to this the BEST way to find out is go to the schools you are interested in fully armed with all the questions you should be asking and getting answers to… a Brisbane school teacher has told us what she would expect to be asked if a parent was truly looking to find a good school for their child – read what she said here.
How NAPLAN reporting has changed
Since 2023, NAPLAN reporting has moved away from league-style comparisons. Results are now reported using Proficiency Standards Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs Support alongside a common national scale. These measures are designed to show how students are progressing, rather than to rank schools.
Your local school not on the top list?
There’s a lot more to a great school than NAPLAN results. If you’re making decisions about the right school for your southside, Logan or Redlands child, there’s more to it than numbers! Learn more about your school options with our Parent Fact Sheets found in our Schools & Education articles. To find out which catchment area you live in, click here.
