Why Choose Our Lady of Mt Carmel Primary School?

Our Lady of Mt Carmel strives to provide a uniquely Catholic curriculum, based upon the guidelines of the Catholic Education Centre.

Christian beliefs and Catholic traditions underpin all learning, with a strong recognition that family, school and parish all play an integral role in a child’s faith development. Liturgy and prayer are at the heart of faith life, and all students are expected to take part in class prayer, assemblies and liturgical celebrations.

Curriculum and Extracurricular activities offered:

Our Lady of Mt Carmel offers learning in music and drama, physical education, and languages other than English (LOTE). The school has a variety of equipment and resources, and specialist teachers to explore learning in these areas.

The LOTE program offers Italian to students in Years 3-6.

Music and Drama classes are held each week for all students. Mt Carmel students can also join choirs and instrumental bands and ensembles, both in junior and senior years. Tuition is also available for guitar, keyboards and strings.

Students from all classes take part in Physical Education lessons each week. There is a range of Interhouse and Interschool sports for students in Years 3-6, and an opportunity for children to take part in Zone and District sports. Mt Carmel School holds carnivals each year in Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming. There are also “out of school hours” teams students can join in a variety of sports including touch football and AFL.

Facilities at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Primary School:

All classrooms have access to PC’s, laptops and tablets. There is wi-fi within the school, and all computers are networked with internet and email access. Interactive whiteboards are used in Prep to Year 3 classrooms, and data projectors are used in all classrooms. Both the library and a spare classroom are equipped with a class set of laptops. Computer club is held in the Resource Centre before school on selected Fridays where students can test different software programs and iPad applications.

Our Lady of Mt Carmel also uses Brisbane Catholic Education’s LIFE program, which provides a portal for improving teaching and learning opportunities at school and at home.

The school is set in a natural bush setting, and has junior and senior playgrounds with sun-safety priorities. Sporting facilities include a large oval, tennis court, basketball court, netball court and 16 handball courts.

There’s a large undercover assembly and physical education area, an amphitheatre, and new school hall. The school also has new facilities for Prep year, and other new rooms for learning support, science, music and drama.
