Queensland University of Technology

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) at QUT is offered to students through a 4-years full-time or 8-years part-time degree. 

In Semester 1 2024, the lowest adjusted ATAR scores to which QUT made an offer was 80.00. 

In this degree, you’ll learn to turn energy into power and motion and to design, create improve, and maintain systems and machinery. The course is a mix of theory and practice, designed to prepare you for the work environment.

You’ll need to have completed:

  • English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C) 
  • Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)

The 2024 annual course fees are $8,100 (96 credit points). 2025 fees are still to be announced. 

University of Queensland

At UQ, their Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) is offered to students with an ATAR of 84.00 or higher. It’s a 4-year full-time or part-time equivalent program. You’ll need to have completed:

  • Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C)

Both Chemistry and Physics are recommended subjects. Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) is also a recommended subject. Students studying Specialist Mathematics and both Physics and Chemistry will have increased flexibility in their studies.

Once graduated, you will be able to find employment in the automotive, aerospace, environmental, medical, or power generation industries, to name but a few.

Fees in 2024 are $7,764. Fee information for 2025 are yet to be announced.

Griffith University

Griffith’s Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) program requires you to have an ATAR of 70.00 or higher, as well as:

  • Any General or Applied English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Recommended: One of Physics, Chemistry or Specialist Mathematics

This Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree is flexible and offered both full-time for 4 years and part-time for 8 years. The annual tuition fee as of 2024 was $9,000. 

A co-requisite of this course is the completion of a minimum of 12 weeks (60 days) of approved experience in an engineering practice environment (or a satisfactory alternative).

Didn’t get a high enough ATAR?

Never mind if you haven’t received a high enough ATAR  for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering – universities and TAFES offer a range of bridging courses and ways to upgrade your ATAR to something higher. All it takes is a year or so to make your ATAR what it needs to be. TAFE offers diploma level courses in Engineering so you can start your studies now.
