Queensland University of Technology

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) is offered to students with an ATAR of 80.00. You’ll attend on campus full time for 4 years, and can start in either the first or second semesters. At QUT, you’ll graduate with an internationally recognised qualification that will provide you with career opportunities overseas.

You can study the design, research, development, planning, manufacturing and management of electrical systems and devices, which underpin modern economies and contribute to the quality of life. You can take your pick of industries like robotics, bio-engineering, mining, or manufacturing. In 2024, fees were $8,100 per full-time study year (2025 fees to be announced), though there are Commonwealth-supported positions and scholarships available.

University of Queensland

The University of Queensland offer a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) degree full time to students with an ATAR of 84.00 or higher. You will need to have completed:

  • Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Either Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C)

Both Chemistry and Physics are recommended subjects. Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) is also a recommended subject. Students studying Specialist Mathematics and both Physics and Chemistry will have increased flexibility in their studies.

This degree is concerned with electrical devices and systems, and you’ll be qualified to work in dynamic industries such as robotics, mining, computing, or telecommunications.

Fees for 2024 are $7,764 per full-time study year. Fees for 2024 are still to be announced. It is good to know that Commonwealth-supported and scholarship-funded positions are available for eligible students. The University of Queensland is a respected institution and a degree at this university will set you above your peers.

Griffith University

For a cutting-edge education with hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories, look no further than Griffith University. Their Bachelor of Engineering degree (Honours) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is offered to students with an ATAR of 70.00. The degree takes 4 years full-time study or 8 years part-time and is available for study in both the first and second trimesters. Annual course fees were $9,000 per year in 2024. Fees for 2025 are not yet available.

You will need to have completed: Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) or a VET qualification/ Cert IV and General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C). Mathematical Methods is assumed knowledge and either Chemistry or Physics is recommended.

University of Southern Queensland 

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) is offered to students with an ATAR of 71.00. You’ll attend on campus full time for 4 years, and can start in either the first or second semesters.

You will need to have completed:

  • Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) or TAFE qualification
  • General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Physics (recommended)

Studying at USQ will help students get hands-on experience and gain an understanding of electrical theory, control theory, electrical plant, computer interfacing and programming, measurement principles and sensor design, signal processing and communications, as well as engineering project management. Annual course fees were $8,948 in 2024. 2025 fees are yet to be announced.

University of the Sunshine Coast

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical) is offered to students with an ATAR of 60.00. You’ll attend either on-campus or online full-time for 4 years, and can start in either the first or second semesters.

You will need to have completed:

  • Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) or TAFE qualification
  • General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • Specialist Mathematics and Physics (recommended)

Studying at USC will help students get hands-on experience and develop in-depth skills in electrical and electronic engineering theory, standards and practice. They also get to complete specialist courses in circuit design and analysis, electrical power systems, robotics and automation, computer programming and more. Fees for 2024 are $7,818. Fees for 2025 are to be announced.

Didn’t get a high enough ATAR?

Don’t worry if your ATAR is too low for your preferred course – bridging courses are available, which allow you to build upon your current ATAR. A year of a TAFE course, an associate degree, or even another bachelor degree and you could be on your way to the university degree of your dreams.

TAFE Queensland has the Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering, which you can use as an upgrading course.
