University of Queensland

The University of Queensland is everyone’s top choice of tertiary schools, and their Arts program is a cut above the rest. To be eligible to apply, you need an ATAR rank of 70. This degree can be completed 3-years full-time or part-time equivalent. You’ll need to have successfully completed English at a Year 12 level.

Arts degrees are valuable because they offer you the opportunity to try a variety of majors to suit your interests. At UQ, the Arts degree is flexible and designed to develop key practical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge. It is available in dual degree format so that your skillset is widened considerably.

The opportunities provided by an Arts degree are practically limitless. Upon completion of your degree, you can work in art galleries, within government departments, in human resources, in travel or tourism, in advertising, or as a writer or researcher. If you can think of it, you can do it. You also have the opportunity to study at a postgraduate level. Course fees annually average at $12,270 for 2023.

Griffith University

Studying a Bachelor of Arts degree at Griffith University requires an ATAR of 65. You can study this degree for 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time, so it’s very flexible for any kind of lifestyle. You can study a variety of exciting majors, with the freedom of combining any two of them to create a dual degree.

The program at Griffith is innovative and offers a combination of traditional study areas and emerging ones that are relevant to the changing world we live in today. In your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to complete an internship or work-based project, which will ensure that you graduate with the practical skills you need to gain employment. Whether that is in journalism, translation or linguistics, public relations, writing, management, or any number of other occupations is entirely up to you.

Australian Catholic University

Australian Catholic University offers a Bachelor of Arts degree for students who have obtained an ATAR of 58.50 or more. You can study either 3 years full-time, or a part-time equivalent or you have the option to do an accelerated mode – 2.5 years. Each year will cost around $15,136 (2023).

The program at ACU is designed to produce articulate, knowledgeable, and creative students with the ability to apply their knowledge innovatively and to think critically. With more than 20 majors and minors in the humanities, social sciences, and visual arts, students are encouraged to design their own academic program based on their passions, interests, and life goals.

University of Southern Queensland

You can study a Bachelor of Arts degree at USQ in person or online and choose from 19 different specialisation areas.

In 2023, it required an ATAR of 58. You can study this degree for 3 years full time or 6 years part-time, so it’s very flexible. You can study a variety of exciting majors including; journalism, history, media, social justice and many more. 

The course will provide transferable skills that will equip you for all the career opportunities the modern world will provide with skills in communication, critical thinking and reading, and problem-solving. Students will also leave with many network connections. Annual 2023 fees are $15,136.

Bond University

Bond University offers a Bachelor of Arts degree for students who have obtained an ATAR of 65 or more. You will complete the degree in 2 years (6 semesters) if studying full-time. Each semester will cost around $16,200 (2023) meaning the total cost will be around $97,200.

The course will equip you with an in-depth knowledge of and an insight into the Arts and Humanities fields including philosophy, human thought and activity, European and Asian languages and cultures, the making of the Australian continent and its people, the story of Indigenous societies and the survival of colonialism.

University of the Sunshine Coast

Studying a Bachelor of Arts degree at USC requires an ATAR of 50. You can study this degree for 3 years full time or 6 years part-time, so it’s very flexible. You can study a variety of exciting majors including; creative writing, geography, journalism, sociology and many more.

This program will help students explore new ideas and ways of thinking, become skilled communicators, develop specialist knowledge in subjects of interest and build advanced critical thinking, research and writing skills. This will set students up for many careers in different fields. Fees in 2023 are $14,281. 

Worried you might not get a high enough ATAR?

Are you worried that your ATAR might not quite meet the requirements for entry into any of the degrees mentioned above? Never fear! Each university offers bridging courses designed to improve your rank so that you’ll be eligible in the future.

Alternatively, you could apply to a TAFE course such as a Diploma of Arts or a Diploma of Social Services, and build your way up to a Bachelor degree level from there.  Your child may also like to consider a Bachelor of Creative Industries – a version of a Bachelor of Arts, with an arts business focus.
