Mt Nebo day trips with kids including JM Jones Tearooms | Day Trips From Brisbane

Mt Nebo, in Brisbane’s backyard is an ideal place for a day trip with kids. It’s just 30 minutes North West of Brisbane and has so much to offer. Head out along Mt Nebo Road through The Gap for a truly wonderful experience for your children.

Your Day Trip starts with Brisbane Forest Park Information Centre

Mt Nebo Day Trips from Brisbane

First stop is Brisbane Forest Park Information Centre to gather some information on Mt Nebo day trips. There’s tons of information and interactive displays for kids. There’s also the Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre where kids can get up close with some of our native creatures while taking one of the bushwalks on offer.

Next stop, Jolly’s Lookout

Jolly’s Lookout is a terrific place to view Samford Valley and out to the islands. Included in the absolutely spectacular view are info boards for kids to read and learn about the formation of our city. There’s also plenty of space to explore, great for stretching little legs after the drive!

Mt Nebo’s best kept secret – JM Jones Tearooms – worth a day trip for this one stop!

Just outside Mt Nebo township, you’ll find J.M. Jones Tearooms. This unassuming and quirky restaurant is a great place to get an ice-cream and a cuppa but more than that, it’s host to thousands of gorgeous, bright, friendly parrots and watchful sulphur crested cockatoos. Native rainbow lorikeets and parrots will land on your Brisbane child and nibble direct from their hands while the cockatoos patiently wait for kids to step back before moving in. If your kids love Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, this (100% free) stop will blow their little minds.

*EDIT*  Note these tea rooms are now only open on weekends.

Westridge Outlook

Westridge Outlook with Kids

The Westridge Outlook on the road to Mt Glorious is a timber promenade overlooking the western side of the range. This gigantic view includes stunning forested mountains but your kids will also love the info boards telling the story of how the range was once under the sea. For kids who love tales of the time of dinosaurs, tales of volcanos and earthquakes there’s plenty to read. The outlook walk widens at its best vantage point, with just enough room to take a seat and eat a picnic lunch.

Your day trip from Brisbane that can be done in an afternoon

North and west Brisbane residents can take an easy, quick drive up the mountain and be back in time for lunch! Mt Nebo is a spectacular destination that is right on our doorstep and jam packed with bush walking, rock pools, amazing views and point of interest for kids. If you’re not walking or swimming, it’s so close that Brisbane parents can take the drive after school and be back in time for dinner! JM Jones Tearooms is worth the quick drive all by itself.

What a way to spend an afternoon!
