Established in 1978 approximately 30 kilometres north from Brisbane’s CBD, Dakabin State High School incorporates student enrollment from the suburbs of Dakabin, Kallangur, Narangba, Undurba, Dayboro, Kurwongbah and Petrie.

Dakabin State High School’s aim is for all students to become well equipped for future success.  The school’s learning culture achieves high performance, enabling students to become resilient, healthy and successful citizens in today’s modern world.

Through the right teaching practices, the school encourages commitment to study and rewards appropriate behaviour.  Students are encouraged to choose subjects that are relevant to their selected career path, and the school focuses on knowledge, skills, behaviours and positive attitudes.

Dakabin State High School promotes learning communities not only on a local and national level but also international relationships, which in turn gives purpose to the quality of education provided.

Dakabin State High School provides a wide range of opportunities for Agricultural studies, such as:

  • Poultry showing
  • Poultry trail (World Poultry Organization)
  • Bee keeping
  • Small animal nurseries
  • Sunflower trail (University of Queensland)
  • Stud cattle show team
  • Stud sheep show team

Cattle and sheep show teams compete in local shows, proving to be a successful part of the school farm and Agriculture program. In 2013, students won Supreme Suffolk Ram at Marburg Show and Supreme Suffolk Ewe at Rocklea Show.

Students are also offered the TASTE – The Agricultural Skills & Technology Experience, which is a 5 day residential program at Emerald and Longreach Agricultural Campus’s in June – July and September holidays.

Dakabin State High School offers sporting extra-curriculum programs.  Years 8 and 9 are given the option to participate in interschool programs on Thursday afternoons.  Sports in Years 10 to 12 is optional, although a large number of students participate in regular interschool competitions.  Dakabin State High School also participates in district, regional, state and national competitions.  A Basketball Academy Program is offered in conjunction with the Northside Wizards.

The school’s performing arts program includes instrumental music (Strings, Concert Band, Big Band) as well as vocal groups, talent quests, dance and drama, school concerts and shows.

Community programs, events and activities include: Student Council, Youth Parliament, World Vision (40 Hour Famine Appeal), Lions Youth of the Year, Blue Earth Committee (environmental awareness and action), Red Shield Appeal fundraiser and the Anzac Parade.

Dakabin State High School students can participate in debating, chess, maths, chemistry and writing competitions. Other extra-curricular activities cover geography, Chefs of the Future, Holden Maryborough Technology Challenge and Ministerial Art Awards.

An extension program (LOTE) is offered to students to travel to Japan every second year.  Students are immersed into the Japanese culture, staying with host families and visiting prominent cultural sites. Dakabin State High School also hosts students from Japan each year.

Facilities at Dakabin State High School:

Students are presented with state-of-the-art technology in 8 computer labs, with each computer lab comprising of 15-28 computers.  Additionally, there are 5 laptop trolley’s throughout the school, with 14-28 laptops on each trolley.  13 laptop/tablet cabinets can be found throughout the school, and pods of desktop computers can be found in many teaching spaces.

Computers are loaded with software including graphics and CAD as required and wireless is available in every classroom.

Other equipment includes projectors and interactive whiteboards, access to printers in every building, and a colour photocopier.

Plenty of resources are available to students in the Independent Learning Centre (ILC)

    We live at facer rd. Burpengary. My son Noah Clements is currently in yr 6 at burpengary meadows.
