Brisbane Grandparent’s Playgroup & Support Groups

Brisbane Grandparent’s Playgroup – A Place to Make Friends!

Are you a grandparent looking for a fun, sociable experience to enjoy with your grandkids? On the 27th of July Playgroup Queensland launched a ‘grandparent’s only playgroup’ at the Ascot Community Centre. The playgroup will be held on Mondays from 9:30-11:00am coinciding with the school term. If the pilot program gains enough members it is hoped to be expanded, with ‘grandparent’s only playgroups’ being run throughout Brisbane and hopefully across the state of Queensland.

A Place to Build Relationships

More and more grandparents are becoming actively involved in caring for their grandchildren, particularly with building childcare costs. It may be anywhere from one day a week so mums and dads can go back to work, through to full time care arrangements for those parents needing extra support in childrearing. Many grandparents know the benefits of socialisation for their grandchildren, which is why they attend. Those who attend would also like to meet likeminded adults, building support networks and friendships.

Children who attend the playgroup will start their journey of lifelong learning, benefiting from the resources and support on offer. The playgroup also provides grandparents with another way to entertain their grandkids. As a grandparent you are a great role model, showing the little ones how to socialise. You may also promote your cultural values, showing the next generation the significance of your culture in the broader community.

A 6 month membership fee of $20 includes a cup of coffee or tea to enjoy while watching the grandkids play. Just pack some healthy snacks for the little ones and you can spend an hour and a half catching up with other grandparents in your community. This will also provide your grandkids with that much needed time to learn the art of communication through play.

Never underestimate the power of grand-parenting…

  • Grandparents take on the role of teacher, enhancing their grandchildren’s understanding of the world around them.
  • Children help adults to see the world through fresh eyes once more.
  • The simple experiences of life can be enjoyed with renewed pleasure such as music, reading, games and the great outdoors.
  • Grandparents also provide that extra support network for new parents.

  1. Morning. I am moving to Brisbane in January to look after my two grandchildren whilst their parents go to work. I would love to be part of this group. Can you please keep me informed on any updates?
    Many thanks
