When you first have your baby you’ll be connected with your local maternal child health centre. There will be a nurse for you to check in with who will not only give you some timely advice and support but also connect you with local mothers who have also recently had newborns.

For some, this is a fantastic system that brings with it a whole new social outlet and a way to connect with other parents.

For others, however, this doesn’t work. This could be because…

  • You move to a new area after your child is out of the newborn phrase
  • You can’t access your MCHN or Centre
  • Your MCHN or Centre has a long waiting list that you miss out on
  • You don’t ‘click’ with the mothers you’ve been connected with

Dads’ Time

Dad’s Time is a father-oriented play group, focusing on the relationship between dads and their kids, as well as between other dads. Dad’s Time enjoys a range of activities, free play, and outdoor fun, as well as a free healthy morning tea. The group is welcome to any fathers, uncles, granddads, and other male members of the family, to bring their young ones along for fun and play.

    They run a daily playgroup 8.30-10.30 for toddlers and are just starting a Mother and baby group.

  2. There’s a great mothers group that meets on Thursday mornings in Paddington that is run by an Occupational Therapist. So good that you can bring your baby and ask questions!!
