Father’s Day on the Gold Coast: Make it Dad’s Best Ever!

Ok, it’s the first Sunday in September and you’ve handed over the socks, jocks and chocs – and yes, we’re sure Dad loves them. However, if you really want to give Dad a Father’s Day to remember take a look at these great ideas for Father’s Day on the Gold Coast.

Action and Adventure

Is your dad a super hero? Not the type to spend Father’s Day lazing on the couch in his brand new slippers? Give him an adrenalin rush with some Gold Coast action and adventure! Challenge him to a rip-roaring race at Slideways Go Karting where the unique three-storey indoor racetrack is guaranteed to get his blood pumping – you have to see it to believe it! Or if Dad’s always wanted to fly send him up in a Russian Yak52 for a stomach churning aerobatic flight with Gold Coast Adventure Flights. Now that’s making memories! Gold Coast is a vibrant city of adventure with no shortage of activities for the thrill-seeker. So if go-karting or adventure flights aren’t Dad’s thing you can treat him to hang-gliding, jet-skiing, skydiving, indoor skydiving, flight simulators and heaps more!

Teddy Bears Picnic

Littlies will love taking their daddy and their favourite teddies for a teddy bears picnic. If you fancy a change from your local park the Gold Coast has an abundance of beautiful locations to take your sandwiches, teddy, and a ball or two for a quick kick-around. The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens has 31 hectares to explore including the Sensory Garden, Butterfly Garden, lake, playgrounds, and dog off-leash area for the fur kids, or head up Tamborine Mountain and pick up a free map from the roadside Tourist Information boards where you’ll find lots of picnic and BBQ areas and other great sites to explore.

Have a Fishing Competition

What better way to relax than dropping a line, sitting back, and reeling in the catch of the century. Grab your rods and head to one of the hundreds of great fishing spots on the Gold Coast. Paradise Point Foreshore is a great place for Dad to teach the kiddies how to fish. Another option is to pack an esky and go fishing off your favourite jetty (where you’ll likely have the advantage of ice cream nearby!). For the more adventurous, you could hire a tinny for a couple of hours. If your dad is super-competitive, go all-out and book a fishing charter. Fishing charters are great for beginners and experienced anglers alike and include all the tackle you’ll need plus an experienced crew to take you to the best local fishing spots around.

Take Dad Time Travelling

There’s nothing quite like Father’s Day to make Dad feel nostalgic for his own childhood, so recreate it and take him back there! Let Dad teach you his favourite playground games (marbles anyone? Or stuck-in-the-mud?), or dig out his dusty Scalextric or train set; pack a bucket and spade and head to one of the beaches for a sandcastle competition, or go fly a kite. Take an interest in Dad and learn about the boy he used to be because, believe me, that boy will always be there!

Cruise the Gold Coast
