Easter is such a special time to spend with the special people in your life. This year Easter falls on the weekend of Friday the 29 March to Monday the 1 of April, 2024. There are so many traditions at Easter time. My family always does an Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday, then catch up with family and friends. Or perhaps you make the most of the very long weekend and catch up on some DIY jobs around the house?
I don’t know about you, but many of our Easter traditions have something to do with food! There are hot cross buns, seafood, roasts and basically any recipe that involves chocolate. There can never be too much chocolate at Easter! It is also time in Brisbane to think about pulling out the winter pyjamas (hopefully!) ready for the Sunday morning Easter egg hunt in the cooler morning air.

What’s on Easter Friday 29 March, 2024
Bluewater Festival | Shorncliffe 2024
Organised by the Sandgate Bayside Chamber of Commerce, the famous Bluewater Festival held on Good Friday 29 March, 2024 at Shorncliffe Pier is one not to be missed and a memorable day out with family and friends. The Bluewater Festival is held on the scenic foreshore at Shorncliffe in conjunction with the annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.
It’s a perfect vantage point to watch the start of this iconic race plus an opportunity to see the Multihull Yacht race start up close off the Pier. Lower Moora Park, Shorncliffe is jam packed with entertainment through the day with live bands, kids workshops, rides, food and markets all culminating into a beach party and fireworks in the evening at 7:30pm.

Caboolture Easter Carnival | Caboolture
Head along to the Caboolture Easter Carnival on Friday 29 March 2024 and kick off the long weekend with a day of family fun!
Running from 11am – 6:30pm to can grab a bite to eat from the range of food and beverage vendors, browse the variety of stalls and enjoy plenty of live entertainment. Here is a taste of what you can expect:

Love your market days? Then hop on over to the Good Friday Pop-Up Markets in Redcliffe! Held on the 29th and 31st of March from 8am to 2pm. Take the whole family to meet the Easter Bunny, enjoy some freshly made street food, life music, and explore over 200 stalls, and indulge yourself in some chocolatey goodness!

Easter Saturday Races | Beaudesert 2024
The Easter Saturday Races will be a fabulous family friendly eggs-travaganza on Sunday 30 March, 2024 with live racing, entertainment, pony rides and face painting plus a variety of food and beverages available for purchase. Gates open from 11am. Bookings recommended. Beaudesert Race Club.

Danny Champion of the World | Brisbane Arts Theatre 2024
See Roald Dahl’s classic book, Danny Champion of the World, brought to life on stage at Brisbane Arts Theatre.
Nine-year-old Danny lives happily in a gypsy caravan with his father, but his world is turned upside-down when he learns that his father poaches pheasants from the estate of the nasty, greedy Victor Hazell. One night his father doesn’t return from a poaching run and Danny fears the worst. Danny sets off on a courageous journey to find his father and with a little help from the village soon finds himself masterminding the most incredible and exciting plot ever attempted against Victor Hazell.

Outdoor Cinema in the Suburbs – Easter Movie Night | Victoria Park
Cosy up for a night under the stars with friends and family on Saturday 30 March 2024 at Victoria Park. Screenings will include family favourites – Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021, rated G) at 6:30pm followed by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005, rated PG) at 8pm.

Fairy Tales | South Brisbane 2024
Venture into the woods with ‘Fairy Tales’ at QAGOMA. Across a magical threshold and beyond the everyday, ‘Fairy Tales’ is this summer’s enchanting exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in Brisbane with more than 100 works presented across the entire ground floor from 2 December 2023 until 28 April 2024.
Exclusive to Brisbane, the ‘Fairy Tales’ exhibition explores how fairy tales from across the world have held our fascination for centuries through art and culture by showcasing the way visual storytellers draw on these narratives to entrance, delight and disconcert audiences.
Watch your favourite movies on the big screen in the accompanying film program ‘Fairy Tales: Truth, Power and Enchantment’ featuring over 40 films at the Australian Cinémathèque, GOMA, and take home the major publication Fairy Tales in Art and Film that explores how fairy tales have held our fascination for centuries through art and culture.
