National Simultaneous Storytime for Brisbane Kids and their Families

National Simultaneous Storytime 2023 will be held in Brisbane on Wednesday 24 May.

In this frenetic age of digital devices, screens and downloadable entertainment it’s easy to fall into the trap of entrusting your child’s entertainment to an app, a game or a TV program. But one of the most precious childhood legacies you can give your child is the simple and beautiful act of sharing and enjoying a picture book together.

To celebrate Libraries and Information Week this year, National Simultaneous Storytime 2023 in Brisbane is an event that aims to help you re-acquaint yourself with the magic and excitement of reading to your child.

What is National Simultaneous Storytime?

It is exactly as the name suggests…a coordinated opportunity for parents and children to share a picture book together at the same time at locations all over Brisbane. Now in its 23rd year, Simultaneous Storytime is an annual national event to celebrate Library and Information Week. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for you to explore Brisbane’s libraries and get a better appreciation of the facilities, services and expertise on offer.

When will Simultaneous Storytime be held this year?

This year, to celebrate Library and Information Week, libraries, schools and book stores all over Brisbane will throw open their doors to welcome children and their parents to a Storytime session on Wednesday 24 May 2023 at 11am. Some events will be preceded by other activities you can enjoy with your child, such as a Simultaneous Storytime puppet show. This is a free event that is guaranteed to kick start your child’s curiosity and help them to discover a lifelong love of reading.

What can I expect from National Simultaneous Storytime this year?

This year, Brisbane’s Simultaneous Storytime 2023 will feature The Speedy Sloth written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie.
