Skating At Festival | Ice Skating King George Square

Outdoor ice skating King George Square Brisbane is back, and just in time for the June/July winter school holidays!

You’d wait a long time for the Brisbane River to freeze over, so the clever people at Skating At have created a winter wonderland right in the heart of Brisbane. The pop-up ice skating rink in King George Square promises SNOW much fun and the COOLEST time for Brisbane families, regardless of skill level and ice skating experience.

What’s at the Brisbane Skating At Festival?

Well there’s the huge ice skating rink for starters, but that’s not all…

The Winter Festival will take over King George Square Brisbane so you can whizz down an ice slide in a snow tube for starters! At the Brisbane Skating At Festival, you can race your mates, or sit back and enjoy the thrilling winter ride!

There are also plenty of food and drink stalls around, so if you don’t fancy joining your kids on the ice you can grab a coffee and snack and watch from the sidelines, or chill for a while in the Après-Ski Bar.

But I’ve never ice skated before!

Not a problem! Ice skates are included in the admission price so all you need to bring is your warm clothing, and an extra pair of thick socks for comfort. For beginners, or those a little unsteady on their skates, you can hire a Kanga – a kangaroo shaped skating aid that glides along in front of you to help you build your confidence (better suited to kid-sized people unless you don’t mind skating bent over!). You can also purchase adult and child sized protection packs, including kneepads and elbow pads, which are then yours to keep.

A magical ice skating King George Square experience

Are you looking for a more authentic wintry ice skating experience? The Brisbane Skating At Festival is open late into the evening, and lit with twinkling fairy lights. Book an evening session for that magical “Christmas in July” feeling under the lights of the Brisbane City Hall.

Who can skate at the Brisbane Skating At Festival?

Anyone over the age of 2 can join the fun on the ice, but children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult and use a Kanga Skating Aid. All children under 5 must also wear a helmet and double bladed skates, which are provided by Skating At in your booking.

When is the Brisbane Skating At Festival?

The Brisbane Skating At Festival in King George Square is on every day from June 21 to July 14, from morning until late in the evening. Times vary, so check out the website for details. We also recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time and date – this experience is going to be popular!

Outdoor Ice Skating At Toowoomba

If you live nearer Ipswich and Toowoomba and the Brisbane Skating At Festival is too far to travel, you don’t have to miss out on the fun. Skating At also has a festival in Toowoomba! Hosted on the same dates, June 21 to July 14, at the Civic Square Toowoomba, you can enjoy all the fun of the ice-skating rink, plus a giant inflatable slide and a bouncy castle. Find out more here.
