This article will tell you about what to expect on a day out at the Brisbane Transport Museum with kids.
There is a Brisbane Transport Museum operating in the southern suburbs of Brisbane and although I have lived here pretty much my whole life, this is the first time I am hearing about it! I know!! It officially opened in 2023. It looks like a fabulous day out with kids who love all things transport! So, I thought I would write about it to share what I have learnt with you. I am good like that! 😉
Brisbane Transport Museum
The Queensland Omnibus and Coach Society is the owner and operator of the Brisbane Transport Museum which is Queensland’s first and only dedicated bus museum. It is not to be confused with the Queensland Transport Museum in Gatton.
The Brisbane Transport Museum houses the largest exhibition of heritage buses and coaches in Queensland. The current fleet of vehicles on display spans from 1938 to 1996 models, with the majority having served the Brisbane City Council, forming a significant part of the city’s transport heritage.
Within the museum, you’ll find an extensive collection of rare photos and industry memorabilia, representing over a century of passenger transport history. Many of these items, previously unseen by the public on a permanent basis, contribute to preserving the rich heritage of Brisbane’s transportation.
Additionally, the museum showcases a dedicated display on Brisbane City Council’s history, spanning from the first buses in 1925 to the latest state-of-the-art Brisbane Metro vehicles.
The museum aims to maintain, preserve and restore historic buses for display and operation to the public. QOCS is also planning to conduct mobile static displays of historic buses and memorabilia to educate and promote the progress and history of the bus industry in Queensland to the public.
