Outdoor cinema McCaskie Park Kelvin Grove
Brisbane is planning to build the city’s first permanent outdoor cinema in Kelvin Grove. A development application has already been lodged by the Brisbane City Council’s City Project Office for the structure to be constructed at McCaskie Park at 137 Kelvin Grove Road.
The proposal details:
- 2.7 metre x 5.4. metre screen
- Small stage area
- Speaker set-up
The outdoor cinema aims to enhance the heritage values of the park as well as its usability.
The council plans to make the cinema operational on weeknights and weekdays and FREE. They will also allow the area to be used by organisations and individuals.
Outdoor cinemas are a fun way to bond with your family and friends. It’s also a great date night idea. Now, with the possibility of having a permanent one here in Brisbane, living in the city will get even better.
Moonlight Cinema Brisbane (closed in winter)
Held in the beautiful New Farm Park right by the Powerhouse, this is an outdoor cinema experience to end all experiences! It’s always a packed, raucous night out and you wouldn’t find a friendlier crowd. Be warned, though – parking is at a premium in this area so plan ahead. You may want to organise public transport – and remember if you go on weekends kids travel free!
Twilight Flicks Outdoor Cinemas
This is a company that services places all over Brisbane. They set up outdoor cinemas for seasonal events, community celebrations and private parties. They’re known to pop up in places like:
- Kippa-Ring
- Cleveland
- Chermside

Movies in the Park at Manly
Head to the bayside on the first Saturday of every month for a free screening of a G or PG rated kids movie! Bring a blanket, grab some fish and chips from the local shops and settle in for a night of giggles. Movies run from 6-8pm.
Christmas Beach Cinema at Streets Beach South Bank
Roll on Christmas! You can have a dive-in outdoor cinema experience at Streets Beach. Splash about while watching a film on the big screen – what could be better?!
Christmas Movies in the Roma Street Parklands
Is there anything Roma Street Parklands can’t do? Located on the Celebration Lawn, they offer movies in the park for free at Christmas time (and Mother’s Day!) to help families celebrate together. They also sometimes host movies on the stage/amphitheatre above the Spectacle Gardens. Awwww. Thanks guys.
