Toowoomba Libraries have Books, Games & Activities for Families

Looking for fun learning activities for your child in Toowoomba? Your local library might be offering just what you’ve been searching for. The Toowoomba Region Library Service offers 13 libraries located across the region, making sure you and your children have access to a plethora of books, magazines, movies, music, internet, eResources, online learning plus much more. Besides the range of resources available, the local library service conveniently offers fun, learning filled activities for babies and young children across most of their branches, including Story Time, Rhyme Time, LEGO Literacy Club, and more!

Story Time

Story time sessions run for 45 minutes and are a wonderful way for your child to socialise and be introduced to literacy and the joy of reading. They are filled with stories, rhymes and songs aimed at 2-5 year old children and their parents, however all ages are welcomed. The sessions provide children with a fun and relaxed start to their reading development before school through interactive storytelling, music, play and art. Bookings are not necessary.

Rhyme Time

Rhyme Time includes Toddler Time for children aged 1-3, and Baby Rhyme Time for babies aged under 1 year old. It is an interactive, early literacy program developed to introduce young children into the world of reading and encourage parents to nurture this skill.

Music and Movement Time

This class is aimed at children aged five and under and their parents to have fun and reinforce emergent reading skills using songs, instruments and toys. Music is used during the sessions as a natural enhancement to the learning process, making stories and activities more memorable and helping children learn.

LEGO Literacy Club

LEGO Literacy Club is now running at Oakey Library for primary-aged children to promote play with the basics of language, encouraging children to experiment, problem solve, create words and rhymes, learn new vocabulary and practice letters and numbers using LEGO bricks.
