Byron Bay Lighthouse
Australia’s most easterly lighthouse sits within the Cape Byron State Conservation Area and no trip to Byron Bay is complete without a visit. From here you can take the steep walking track, a 3.7km loop, which takes in spectacular views, beaches and rainforest. Look out for migrating whales from May to October, while all year round you’re likely to see dolphins, wallabies, goannas, and brush turkeys – and you may even catch a glimpse of a solitary old brown goat who’s evaded capture for years.
Lighthouse tours are available for a gold coin donation and there’s also small museum and café on site. If your children are early risers it’s well worth coming back to watch the sun rise over the ocean, and the sunsets are just as spectacular.
Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (formerly Macadamia Castle)
A wonderful tourist attraction that will easily fill 3-4 hours or longer! This Byron Bay attraction is perfect for toddlers to older kids. Feed and hold the baby farm animals, watch the reptile and bird shows, climb the adventure playground, play a round of mini-golf, ride the miniature train, and then fill up in the delightful café. A firm favourite with my family with toddlers to a 16 year old!
