The Wynnum Seafood Festival | Family-friendly, fresh and fun!
Please note – The 2017 Wynnum Seafood Festival has been postponed until July/August 2018 due to funding difficulties. Watch this space for updates.
With a natural abundance of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans—and beautiful ocean and island views—Moreton Bay has long been a paradise for lovers of seafood, and The Wynnum Seafood Festival is a smorgasbord celebration of the very best this region has to offer. This family-friendly fun and food filled event sees the return of The Wynnum Seafood Festival. The festival will take over George Clayton Park, on the lower Esplanade, for a day of seafood sampling, competitions, fun events, music, markets and more. There’s something for the whole family to enjoy! Last year saw over 15,000 people attend – will you be there this year?
Tempt your Tastebuds
Food stalls a-plenty with local and international flavours will ensure that even the fussiest of eaters will find something to fill their bellies. Local suppliers will be providing a menu that includes BBQ bugs, prawn skewers, crumbed calamari, shellfish, Asian-fusion street food, Spanish paella, grilled salmon, wild-caught fish and seafood platters, while those less keen on ocean-based delicacies will be catered for with a variety of pop-up gourmet kitchens supplying meatier—and meat-free—alternatives, snacks and drinks. Mums and Dads (and other adults) will have the opportunity to quench their thirsts in the fully licensed bars and outdoor areas, offering carefully selected wines and boutique craft beers to enjoy with your food, all whilst relaxing to live music from local musicians.
Keep the Kids Entertained
Last year saw some hands-on activities with real ocean creatures as well as children’s entertainment and activities. The stage is set for this to be bigger and better in 2017 – watch this space as more information comes out!
The Fun Continues!
Ever seen a crab race? You will at The Wynnum Seafood Festival! Mud crab races form part of the entertainment program, along with a Prawn Peeling Competition where contestants battle it out for the prestigious Prawn Cup Trophy, cooking demonstrations, interactive and educational displays, and music provided by a number of local musicians, artists and bands throughout the day.
Browse the Markets
Lots of market stalls will be at the festival selling fresh produce, clothing, arts, crafts and vintage items. Stock up your refrigerator with fresh local ingredients to try out the recipes you learned in the cooking demonstrations, or treat yourself to something wonderfully quirky to take home.
