Roma’s Easter in the Country: A Celebration You Won’t Want To Miss!

Easter in the Country! Roma has the perfect festival to help you celebrate one of the most beautiful times of the year in one of the most beautiful spots in Queensland. Will you be one of the lucky ones to attend this year?

This year’s event will take place 28 March – 1 April 2024. 

Roma’s Easter in the Country

Recognised as one of Queensland’s premier Easter events, the festival offers a range of activities for the thrill-seeker, the cultural and culinary buff, those who like to take things a little more leisurely and country music lovers!  This special event celebrates everything unique that outback Queensland has to offer. 

Where is Roma?

Roma is approximately six hours drive west of Brisbane. If you’re travelling for the festival we would definitely recommend booking ahead into any number of excellent hotels and Air BnB’s in the area. Be quick though – they’ll fill up fast!

If camping’s your thing then you’re in luck – you can camp and caravan at the festival!

What’s on at Roma’s Easter in the Country?

Easter in the Country Events 

There are many events on over the five days. These are some of the highlights.

*New Event* QLD Country Meat Masters BBQ Competition

Who will be crowned the 2024 Meat Master?

See the teams battle it out with low and slow cooking,  testing their skills with chicken, lamb or brisket. Judging commences at 4pm, with the Meat Master crowned at 7.30pm.

Live music, food vans, bar,  family entertainment and Easter Egg hunt for the kids from 4pm.    

  • Venue: Club Hotel Roma, 42 McDowall Street, Roma
  • Time: 4pm to 8pm

The Big Rig Tower & Tree Walk & Self-guided Tour of the Oil Patch

Learn about the trials and tribulations that our pioneers endured whilst trying to strike it rich with Roma oil, and how their lessons have led to a multi-billion industry today.

Immerse yourself in the pioneering stories, climb the magnificent 40m tower, meander along the tree walk through the ancient river red gums, stand beneath the rigs and gain an understanding of hope, ingenuity and mateship that shaped the Australian oil, gas and energy industry.

  • Venue: The Big Rig, 2 Riggers Rd, Roma
  • Time: 9am to 4:30pm daily
  • Cost: Adults $20, Concession $18, Family (2 Adults, 2 Children) $55, Child $15, Children under 5 yrs free. Bookings essential.  

The Big Rig Night Show Sunset Experience

Ignite your interest in sabotage, drama and intrigue through the eyes of a “Roma Rigger” guide, with a glass of Outback port and an original short history film under the stars in our outdoor theatre. 

The events that occurred in Roma threatened to destroy the Australian oil and gas industry before it even began, join us as we share the gritty details and salute Australia’s riggers, past and present.

  • Venue: The Big Rig, 2 Riggers Rd, Roma
  • Time: 5:30pm daily
  • Cost: Adults $20, Concession $18, Family (2 Adults, 2 Children) $55, Child $15, Children under 5 yrs free. Bookings essential.  

Roma Saleyards Tour

Roma Saleyards are the largest cattle selling facility in the southern hemisphere, seeing over 400,000 cattle a year. Selling occurs every Tuesday morning, and are an incredible sight to see! Tours are available on sale days free of charge.  Please note that there is no cattle sale on Easter Thursday. However, tours will still be held. No bookings required.

  • Venue: Bull Ring area, Roma Saleyards, Warrego Highway
  • Cost: Free – No bookings required
  • Time: Thursday 28 March, meet at the Bull Ring area at 8.15am for an 8.30am tour kick off.

Maranoa Monster Fishing Competition

See more of the Maranoa and come along and take part in the Maranoa Monster Fishing Competition.  

This competition is hosted by the Mitchell Fishing and Restocking Group at the Neil Turner Weir.

Neil Turner Weir is a small weir located on the northern side of the Mitchell township.  The weir holds back the waters of the Maranoa River. To the west on the banks of the river, is a fishing spot known as Fisherman’s Rest. The weir was built in 1984 and is made of concrete and filled with sand.  

BBQ as well as fish and chips will be available throughout the day with an ice-cream van for refreshments.

Raffles will also be run on the day.  It should be a great day to enjoy the country atmosphere and the friendliness of the local community.

Prizes will be presented for each of the following categories:  Male, Female and Junior Boy and Junior Girl – so bring the whole family for a day out fishing.

  • Venue: Neil Turner Weir – Mitchell
  • Date and Time: Friday 29 March, commences at 7am. Presentations to be held at 4:30pm.
  • Cost: Nomination fees – $10 per individual and per family for members. $10 for non-members per individual.

An Eggcellent Afternoon with Bluey and the Easter Bunny

Enjoy an afternoon of children’s entertainment and fun for the young at heart.

2:00pm – Join in the fun of the games – egg and spoon races, sack races and three legged races. These will be in ages groups and on the terrace adjacent to the Miniature Train at the Big Rig Parklands.

3:00pm – CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT – Bluey and Bingo Live Interactive Experience at Easter in the Country!  Bluey and Bingo return to Roma’s Easter in the Country!  Come down, welcome them back and see Bluey and Bingo.

  • Cost: Free
  • Date and Time: Friday 29 March, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm

MGA Xtreme Bulls Australia

The Original Xtreme Sport is back this year in Roma!!

Xtreme Bulls are pleased to be heading back to Roma’s Easter in the Country weekend for another stop of the Xtreme Bulls Australia Tour.

This will be Roma’s fifth Xtreme Bulls event and one not to miss out on. Featuring Australia’s elite and up and coming Bull Riders taking on the Gill Bros Rodeo Company’s Xtreme Bulls!  Be sure to catch the action ringside and on the big screen replays.

With increased prize money to $8000 winner takes all – not a bad wager for a 10 second ride…

The event is a classic, so sit back and relax at the alcohol free family night.

Food vans on site.           

  • Venue: Bassett Park – Roma Showgrounds Northern Road, Roma
  • Date and Time: Friday 29 March, gates open at 5:00pm for a 6:00pm start. Concludes approx 10:00pm.
  • Cost: Adults (12 years and over) $25 each, children (11 years and under) free.

Country Markets

Showcasing a fantastic array of arts, crafts, wares, food and drinks at the Country Markets in Arthur and Wyndham Streets. Customers are sure to find something to take home. Heaps of market stalls to wander through and of course there will be bargains to be found.

  • Venue: McDowall Street, Roma
  • Time: Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March, 7:00am to 2:00pm
  • Cost: Free entry

XXXX Easter Races

Meet friends to enjoy an afternoon of racing with a five race program.

  • Venue: Showgrounds – Bassett Park, Northern Road Roma
  • Date and Time:  Saturday 30 March, 1:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Cost: Free Entry

APLNG/Origin Country Music Concert Extravaganza

2024 will see The Viper Creek Band and Adam Brand concert at Roma’s Easter in the Country.  Don’t miss these country music legends.

  • Date and Time: Sunday 31 March, 8:30pm till late
  • Cost concert: Adult: $60, Child: $40.00 (12-17 years), Children (Under 12 years) FREE, Family Ticket – 2 Adults & 2 Children (12-17 years) $200
  • Cost rodeo & concert: Adult: $95.00, Child: $70.00 (13-17 years), Child (Under 12 years) FREE, Family Ticket – 2 Adults & 2 Children (13-17 years) $330
