The City of Gold Coast Christmas Lights Competition will kick off again in December 2020 – the 2019 Gold Coast Mayor’s top 12 have been chosen and can be seen in the maps below, highlighted by a Christmas tree. A tour of the lights is a wonderful opportunity to ditch the devices and get out and about as a family. Enjoy the festive atmosphere and twinkling kaleidoscope of light and colour this Christmas. Here’s where you can start your search for the best Christmas lights on the Gold Coast this year!

The City of Gold Coast Christmas Lights Competition 2019

Boasting thousands of dollars in prize money, the City of Gold Coast Christmas Lights Competition 2019 will run throughout December this year.

As with previous years, the competition welcomes entries from both householders and businesses across the Gold Coast.

And there’s no reason that you can’t see all of the incredible entries. We’ve made it super-simple to see the entrants and more with our downloadable map!

How to enter your place in the competition

The 2019 competition is closed, but you can plan ahead for 2020 and download the Christmas Lights Competition entry form and terms and conditions below. Click, complete and e-mail back to [email protected] or post to:

To appeal to voters, entrants may wish to consider the following when creating their display:

  • visual appeal
  • uniqueness
  • overall impact
  • variety of decorations used
  • energy efficient and environmentally friendly options.

If you’re an entrant yourself, you’ll be allocated a unique code which allows for voting by SMS. The winners in each category will be announced just prior to Christmas.

Bus Tours of the Christmas Lights on the Gold Coast

Even if you’re not keen on entering the competition yourself, you can enjoy the very best it has to offer by taking your family on a tour of the lights. It’s a fabulous opportunity to marvel at the creative genius, ingenuity and imagination of local entrants. Foot and vehicular congestion can become an issue at some of the sites, so there’s a perfect alternative if you don’t want to take the car.

    If I will go to Gold Coat on 1 or 2 December, can I already see all the houses decorated with Christmas Lights or it is too early? I have seen a lot of such beautifully decorated houses in the residential area of Gold Coast and Brisbane. Looks that it is much better than in Sydney.
