The Great & Grand Rumpus | South Brisbane

11 December, 2021 - 23 June, 2022

The Great & Grand Rumpus

Explore The Great & Grand Rumpus at the State Library of Queensland from 11 Dec 2021- 23 June 2022, a sculptural, digital, and immersive installation.

A warning to all who enter these doors
The brave who pass through Wobbly Tooth’s jaws
Respect The Grumpus, yes that’s the name
For when you enter this world, you’re never the same
Through what is old, find a new state of mind
So open your eyes, who knows what you’ll find?

The exhibition origins lie in the limitless imaginations of children. The fifteen-month long community engagement project invited children from around Brisbane to expand their imaginations, and in doing so dream up a collection of the most fantastic, astonishing and magical things you could expect to see.

A community of makers, volunteers and students turned these imagined things into cardboard sculptures scaling more than 4.5 meters high.

You can register to attend a curator tour, family tour or a make and design tour. Families can also get involved in making workshops where kids can get hands on make their own creations. Find out more about The Great and Grant Rumpus here.
