Luminous Lantern Parade | South Bank
9 June, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Now in its 16th year, the annual LUMINOUS Lantern Parade will be held on Friday 9 June 2023, capturing the imagination of Queenslanders with its spectacular use of light to symbolise hope and create welcome for new Queenslanders.
Southbank will be lit up with a trail of magnificent lanterns taking the form of giant wildlife and flora, celestial bodies, and various symbols of kindness. The night culminates with a festive concert where audiences are treated to incredible performances and live music from around the world.
From a modest candlelight gathering 16 years ago, the annual spectacle has developed into a movement of solidarity and support by the broader public for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum. Tens of thousands from across the State come together every year to witness the warmth of the Queensland spirit in this winter event.
The symbolic parade will begin at Southbank’s Flowstate open-air pavilion and will traverse along the stunning Brisbane River by nightfall. It will finish at the Southbank Piazza where the lanterns will illuminate the World Music concert stage featuring performances from a diverse range of musicians and dancers.
- LUMINOUS Lantern Parade is a free event for all ages.
- The parade begins at 5:30 pm, with the concert kicking off from 7pm.
