GATHAA First Nations Markets Family Fun Day

Celebrate the beauty and diversity of First Nations culture at the GATHAA First Nations Markets Family Fun Day. Hosted at the State Library of Queensland, this event on Saturday, September 28th, promises a day of cultural enrichment, community, and family-friendly activities.

Event Highlights:

  • First Nations Markets: Discover a unique selection of handcrafted goods, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of Indigenous culture. A perfect opportunity to find artisanal treasures and support First Nations artists.
  • Live Performances: Enjoy vibrant performances by local Indigenous artists, bringing the sounds and stories of First Nations culture to life.
  • Traditional Indigenous Games: Participate in engaging and educational games that are fun for all ages.
  • Bushtucker Yarns and Cooking Demonstrations: Learn about the rich traditions of bushfood through storytelling and demonstrations. Aunty Dale Chapman of My Dilly Bag will share her knowledge during the Bushtucker Yarn, while Chris Jordan from Three Little Birds and Aunty Dale will demonstrate bushfood cooking on an open fire.
  • Cultural Arts and Sound Workshops: Join immersive workshops presented by Cultural Collaboration, where you can explore cultural arts and sounds. Activities for young visitors, or “jarjums,” are specially designed to inspire and educate.
  • Welcome to Country and Dance: The day begins with a Welcome to Country by Shannon Ruska from Tribal Experiences, followed by a lively session of stomping, singing, and dancing led by Aunty Sharron.
  • Bushfood and Food Trucks: Savor delicious bushfood from on-site food trucks, offering a taste of Indigenous cuisine.
