If you’re planning the summer school holidays and feeling a little overwhelmed with options (or just want something guaranteed to impress the kids), Gold Coast theme parks are a solid go-to. What makes 2026 extra exciting is just how much new there is to check out – revamped rides, brand-new shows, fresh attractions and updated experiences that feel like a completely different day out.
We’ve rounded up what’s new across Warner Bros -Movie World, Wet’n’Wild, and SEA WORLD, plus a quick guide to choosing the right ticket for your family.
What’s New at Movie World
SCOOBY-DOO! Spooky Coaster

I’m genuinely relieved the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster is finally back. It was closed during our last visit and my kids talked about it for months. The refurb was worth it though – the new projection mapping is sharper, louder, and yes… keep an eye out for the infamous “meat wall” scene.
Parent tip: if your child is on the fence about scary rides, don’t keep the backward drop a surprise. Tell them before you queue. We watched one poor dad dealing with a full meltdown at the loading platform because he thought springing it on his kid would be “fun.” It was not fun.
Expect:
- dark ride moments
- quirky jump-scares
- a roller coaster “surprise” section that gets screams and laughter every time
It’s a great mid-level thrill if your kids aren’t quite ready for the big coasters.
Spy Chase: Stunt Show -New this December

This is one of Movie World’s biggest launches in years. Picture explosive stunts, loud engines, pyrotechnics, chase scenes and movie-style action but happening live in front of you.
Benefits for families:
- shorter runtime (ideal for kids)
- the pacing keeps younger ones engaged
- great seating zones so you don’t need to queue forever
If you’ve been before, this alone makes Movie World feel “new” again.
Wet’n’Wild: The Zoom Zone

If you have kids who love waterslides, this will probably be the first stop.
The new Zoom Zone looks incredible – you’re standing 17.6 metres above the park, staring down at this swirl of colour that honestly feels like a moving kaleidoscope.
Before you line up though, read the rules properly. We saw several people turned away from the steepest slides because of loose rashies or board shorts with zippers – brutal after waiting in the sun.
Also, fair warning to parents: these are proper body slides. No mats. No tubes. No mercy. If you’re over 30, you will feel every bump on the way down… and yes, I screamed louder than the kids.
Good to know:
- swimmers only (no rashies over slides for some sections)
- height restrictions apply
- tends to be busiest late morning
SEA WORLD: ONE Dolphin Presentation
By about 2:00pm, we were completely themed out. The ONE Dolphin Presentation ended up being less about dolphins and more about finally sitting down.
The good news? The stadium now has a proper roof, so you’re actually in the shade a total lifesaver for afternoon shows. It’s less about tricks and more about rescue stories. Keep an ear out for Howie the dolphin – his story genuinely stopped us in our tracks.
Highlights:
- beautiful choreographed moments
- gentle educational touch
- feels like a “show with a message”, not just entertainment
If your family includes mixed ages or grandparents, this is the perfect shared activity.
Which pass should you choose?
This is the question we get more than anything.
Here’s the quick breakdown:
| Pass Type | Best For | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1-day pass | Families with a single park day | Quick visit, short break or passing through |
| 3-day pass | Families wanting value | Flexibility + cheaper per day |
| Annual pass | Locals or frequent visitors | Best long-term value if you’ll return 3+ times |
A good rule of thumb:
If you plan more than one theme park across your holiday, a multi-day pass is usually cheaper.
