Dinner at Mulga Bill’s: A Relaxed Family Celebration by the River

We chose Mulga Bill’s for a special reason – a family dinner to celebrate our daughter’s birthday and it turned out to be a lovely, easygoing night that worked just as well for kids as it did for adults.

From the moment we arrived, the vibe felt right. Mulga Bill’s has that relaxed, modern feel with marble tables, soft lighting and plenty of space, even on a busy evening. We were asked to wait to be seated, but the atmosphere made it feel calm rather than rushed and exactly what you want when dining with children.

Once seated, the table setup immediately stood out. Spacious tables meant everyone had room (no juggling plates and drinks), and the setting felt special without being too formal perfect for a birthday celebration.

Drinks That Feel Like a Treat

The drinks were a highlight. From beautifully presented cocktails with floral garnishes to refreshing lemony and mint-infused options, even the non-alcoholic choices felt celebratory. It’s one of those places where kids feel included because their drinks arrive looking just as fun as the adults’.

Food Everyone Was Happy With

Sharing food worked really well here. The pizza arrived perfectly cooked golden, crisp edges with generous toppings – and it disappeared fast. We also ordered sides and shared plates, which made the meal feel relaxed and social rather than structured.

No one felt rushed, and that made a big difference. The kids could chat, laugh and enjoy the moment, while we actually got to sit back and enjoy the food (a rare win when dining out as a family).

A Kid-Friendly Setting Without Feeling “Childish”

It’s a similar vibe to many of the spots we recommend in our guide to family-friendly restaurants in Brisbane, where parents can relax while kids still feel welcome.

One thing we really appreciated was how family-friendly the space felt without being noisy or chaotic. The kids were comfortable, the adults were relaxed, and the riverside backdrop added that little bit of magic especially in the evening with the city lights behind us.

Final Thoughts

Mulga Bill’s is a great option if you’re looking for:

  • A family-friendly restaurant that still feels special
  • A relaxed place for birthday dinners or celebrations
  • Good food, standout drinks, and a setting where kids are genuinely welcome

For us, it ticked all the boxes a memorable birthday dinner where everyone left happy, full, and smiling.

Its central riverside location also makes it easy to pair dinner with nearby attractions especially if you’re planning a day out using our guide to things to do in Brisbane CBD with kids.

Mulga Bill’s is located within the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct in the heart of the CBD. You’ll find Mulga Bill’s at 155 Alice Street, Brisbane City QLD 4000, positioned near the riverfront and surrounded by the dining, entertainment and pedestrian walkways of the Queen’s Wharf development, making it an easy stop before or after exploring the city.
