Why choose St Matthew’s Cornubia?

St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School caters for students from Prep to Year 6 in the traditions and spirit of Saint Mary MacKillop and the Josephite Sisters. The school emphasises CARE – Cooperation, Acting safely, Respect and Effort.

The school has a proactive resilience program aimed at fostering positive behaviour and targeting bullying. A Pastoral Care Worker and a Guidance Officer provide support to classes and individuals, and Year 6 students volunteer for pastoral care activities like supervising games or helping younger children. This is further enhanced by a whole school buddy program where older students offer support to younger students.

Curriculum and extracurricular activities offered:

St Matthew’s Cornubia offers Australian Curriculum subjects along with Religious Education, which is integrated into every facet of the school and its community.  Classroom teachers are supported by specialist staff in Physical Education, Music, Library, Information and Communication Technology, and Languages Other Than English (LOTE). Years 5 and 6 students learn Spanish as their LOTE subject.

All children take part in the school’s Physical Education Program. They compete in cross-country and athletics competition, and also develop skills for games, fitness, dance and swimming. Senior students compete in team sports against other schools. There are also numerous extra-curricular sporting options available.

The school also has a variety of music options with a Junior and Senior Choir and School Band, and lessons in violin, guitar, keyboard and other musical instruments. Students can also participate in the Junior Rock Eisteddfod.

There’s also a Drama Club and a Chess Club.

Facilities at St Matthew’s Cornubia:

All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and up-to-date data projector and sound system setups. There are two computer labs, wireless access throughout the school, and each year level has access to at least 15 laptops.
