Why Choose St Andrew’s School?

St Andrew’s is a Catholic co-educational primary school, for Prep to Year 6, whose tradition lies with the spirit of St Benedict. A part of the Grovely parish, the school promotes values that enhance the ideals of Making Jesus Real. These include respect, reverencing creation, contemplation, shared responsibility and partnerships, joy, hospitality and compassion.

The school’s motto is “Attend with a listening heart”, and the school strives to foster a community where the welfare of each person is paramount. There is a buddy system that partners Year 6 students with Prep children, to help them transition to school life at St Andrew’s.

The school is multi-resourced to cater for different learning styles.

Curriculum and Extracurricular activities offered:

St Andrew’s curriculum combines subjects from the Australian Curriculum and the Queensland Curriculum. Students are able to engage in specialist programs including Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Information Skills with the Teacher Librarian and Italian (years 4-6).

In addition, the school has a range of extra-curricular activities.

The music program includes tuition in strings, keyboard and a range of other brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Students have the opportunity to join the Junior and Senior Bands.

Students take part in Inter-school sport, and can also take dance lessons.

An Outdoor Education Program is offered to Year 5 and 6 students.

Years 4-6 students also take part in a Reader’s Cup competition, which encourages them to read good books they may not otherwise be exposed to.

St Andrew’s also offers a Chess program for beginners and experts.

The Nicola McGovern Information Services centre is integral to the school’s operation. It has an automated library, with computerised borrowing system, and is staffed by a teacher-librarian and library-aide.
