The school’s education philosophy is one of a partnership between teachers and parents. This enables students to build trusting relationships with adults charged with their care, and therefore achieve the best possible teaching and learning outcomes.

Curriculum and Extracurricular activities offered:

Ferny Grove State School has a well rounded curriculum that includes Music, Physical Education, Sport, Languages other than English (LOTE), Technology and the Arts.

The music program is a stand-out, with a large number of students involved in both choral and instrumental programs. The students perform regularly on parade and in competitions, and their learning culminates with a major school concert and various activities in Expressive Arts Week.

Students in Years 4-6 take part in the Rock and Water program. The program aims to build the students’ capacity to stand up for themselves, recognise difficult situations, and handle potentially risky problems. All teachers in these years are trained Rock and Water facilitators.

Ferny Grove State School is set in a leafy suburb, and has expansive play areas and gardens. The schools is well maintained, and has a large modern hall, state-of-the-art library, pleasant eating areas and inviting classrooms.

Other information:

Helping Hands Network provides Outside School Hours Care (OHSC) services for the school community. Programs are designed in consultations with parents, children and the broader school community to provide a “home away from home” environment that caters to the children’s age, skill, interests and abilities.

Janine Mergler is a veteran Queensland teacher, graduating from QUT with a BEd majoring in Social Sciences. After many years in the classroom, Janine moved on to academia. She has proudly trained new generations of teachers in her role as a lecturer at Queensland University of Technology Faculty of Education. She has also worked in the Queensland Government as an education specialist, developing education resources and delivering community awareness programs to help families conserve water.
