A new special school, Pacific Hope School, is opening to provide children with additional needs a compassionate and unique learning environment. Located in Tweed Heads South, it’s one of the first of its kind in southeast Queensland and northern NSW.
So if you’re considering non mainstream schooling options for your child next year, here is all you need to know.
School works with families to consider student’s needs
School director Klaus Knobloch says for the past three years Pacific Hope School has been operating out of the Pacific Coast Christian School Campus.
Just recently land was cleared and space made so it could have its own administrative buildings and classrooms alongside the current Christian school.
He says Pacific Hope School caters for students with autism spectrum disorder as well as mild and moderate intellectual disabilities.
The school is part of six schools that form the Pacific Hills Group of schools, situated in Sydney, Maclean and Tweed Heads. It will cater to children from kindergarten to year 12.
“The vision of Pacific Hope School is to provide inclusive opportunities for students in the wider community who have special needs,” he says.

The school believes that your child is unique and works to develop their full potential. It does this by providing your child with a mixture of individualised and small group instruction and support.
In addition, Mr Knoblock says the school will work closely with your family to consider their specific needs. After doing this it can plan the best outcomes for your child.
Furthermore, the director of the school says Pacific Hope School has a clear vision to honour Christ in all its programs and practices. Due to this, all staff members are committed Christians.
“It is within this Christian environment that we can nurture and train the students to value and respect themselves and each other,” he says.
Vision of Pacific Hope School
The school aims to provide your child, diagnosed additional needs, a centre of teaching and learning excellence. Staff will deliver a different but comprehensive curriculum in an appropriately tailored learning environment.
This is so that your child is supported in their personal growth, allowing them to find full enjoyment of life now and for eternity.
Mr Knoblock says the purpose of Pacific Hope School is to make a difference in the learning and in the life of your child. Furthermore, this will give students the optimal opportunity to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.
The history of Pacific Hope School
Pacific Hope School is a new educational entity approved by the Board Of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards to start operating in 2015.
However, it is grounded in a long and well-recognised history. As early as 1979 Pacific Hills Christian Education Ltd, the operators of Pacific Hope School, launched a different school.
This school aimed to provide a quality Christian education to students with special and specific learning needs in a mainstream environment.
In 2015, Pacific Hope School was launched as a separate special educational entity. This means it’s eligible for special education funding support.
Mr Knobloch says construction of the new school is in line with the original intent of the schools’ founders.
