Why Choose Samford State School?

Samford State School’s mission is to help students fulfil their potential both in and beyond the classroom. The school maintains its warm country feel, while offering a modern education that prepares students to make their way in the world.

Students are presented with diverse opportunities to grow and develop confidence and responsibility through academia, culture, sport and community activities.

The school became an Independent Public School in 2015, giving it greater autonomy and an ability to work more closely with parents and the wider community to shape the education of the students. Rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach, teachers and staff are able to use a range of different strategies to meet the individual learning needs of each child.

Curriculum and Extracurricular activities offered:

Samford State School teaches the Australian Curriculum in English, Maths, Science and History, and the Queensland Curriculum for the Arts, Technology, Health and Physical Education and Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE).

Prep students are taught according to the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines.

The school’s sports program aims to develop skills while also providing enjoyment for students. Swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals are held in two year levels – Early Phase (Years 1-3) and Middle Phase (Years 4-6). School teams also compete at district levels, and many students go on to compete at regional and state levels in both team and individual events. Swimming lessons are held in Terms 1 and 4 each year.

Samford School has a broad music program. Students can join a number of ensembles including Concert Bands (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and String Orchestras (Junior and Senior). The school also has Songsters, a Junior Choir, Intermediate Competition Choir and two Senior Competition Choirs.

There are also numerous other activities offered to broaden students skills and experience. These vary from term to term, and include pottery, mosaics, embroidery, drawing, drama, guitar lessons, short film making and chess. Hockey, soccer, skipping, yoga are some of the more physical activities offered.

Facilities at Samford State School:

The school’s new architecturally designed Library Resource Centre is equipped with Wi-Fi, Smart Boards, data projectors and banks of computers. It has a well-stocked selection of fiction and non-fiction, comfortable lounges and an open-plan layout to suit a variety of teaching activities. There is also a dedicated computer-based mini-lab for small group instruction.

Samford State School has its own swimming pool, an oval, various courts and plenty of covered playgrounds and games areas.

Other info about Samford State School:

The school strives to hold Instrumental Music Camps each year. There is a Beginners Music Camp for all beginner music students, and a Senior Camp for which students audition for selection.
