The much-loved Quandamooka Music & Cultural Festival is set to return to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) on August 30th-31st.
The festival will be held in Dunwich, Stradbroke Island, offering a vibrant mix of music, culture, and art in an idyllic island setting. Co-headlining the Friday night music program will be Meanjin favorite Jem Cassar-Daley, alongside acclaimed artists Uncle Joe Geia and Quandamooka musician Sachem.
The festival provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the continuing culture of the Nughi, Nunukul, and Goenpul clans of Quandamooka. This annual winter event kicks off with a Traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country, allowing participants and audiences to celebrate the yalingila (whale) migration season. Attendees can look forward to a diverse lineup of cultural activities, including tours, Kunjiel (corroborees), music performances, food, weaving, arts, crafts, panel discussions, First Nations’ films, and more.
Saturday will feature the return of the Kunjiel (corroboree/traditional dance) programming, with traditional dance groups sharing cultural dance with locals and visitors. As the sun sets over Minjerribah, attendees will experience the inaugural Quandamooka Film Festival, showcasing films made by local creatives. This unique drive-in movie experience blends cultural celebration with cinematic storytelling, providing an evening of unforgettable entertainment.
