Cross River Rail School Holiday Program

14 September - 29 September

Cross River Rail School Holiday Program

Cross River Rail has developed a range of free, fun and exciting educational activities for all ages running from Saturday 14 September to Sunday 29 September, providing families with a unique opportunity to enjoy themselves while learning more about one of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects.

Activities include:

Bee Green

Our city is home to people, plants, and animals, including bees—some of the smallest but most vital in our ecosystems. From your garden to the future Green Spine in the CBD, we can help bees by having flowering plants and providing shelter. Bee ready for this exciting activity, where you can watch a beekeeper at work, taste honeycomb, and make a native bee hotel to take home.

Macrame Madness

The Green Spine along Albert Street will be a tree-lined, sub-tropical public plaza. Bring greenery to your home by creating a macrame potholder.

Crazy Critters

Join a treasure hunt to find the crazy critters hidden in one of the station artworks and create your own critter-filled masterpiece.

Line of Roos

Through storytelling and art, join a mob of kangaroos as they tackle challenges. Explore how colour and scale are used in artworks to express emotions, then create your own mob collage.

Lego City Build

Become an urban planner and design the future Albert Street precinct. Use Lego to bring your city to life with streets, transport, trees, and buildings of various shapes and sizes.

Puzzle Mania

Find a quiet corner of the Experience Centre and tackle jigsaw puzzles based on the designs of our train stations. There are puzzles for all ages.

Coding Ozobots

Learn basic coding with the world’s cutest robots! Explore how Ozobots use sensors, create your own code, and test it on an Ozobot.

Seed Mosaics

Most plants in the Green Spine along Albert Street will have grown from seeds. Explore the importance of trees and create a mosaic inspired by different types of seeds.

Let’s Make Origami

Learn how to take a flat sheet of paper and turn it into a 3D object like a building or vehicle through origami. Then, think like a city planner and display your creations on a large map of Brisbane CBD.

Marvellous Maps

Explore Cross River Rail construction sites in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Find out if your house is north, south, east, or west of the city and draw it on a giant map. Test your spatial skills with mapping challenges.

Build it on the Gold Coast

Dive into coding with Ozobots in the Super Signalling System workshop, create codes, and design model bridges after learning about bridge types. Experience the future Cross River Rail stations through virtual reality, simulating navigation in these new facilities under construction.
