Early years at Sheldon College

The first five years of a child’s life are crucial for development.  In fact, it’s during this time that 90% of their brain develops. Brain development is “activity-dependent,” meaning the more sensory, motor, emotional, and cognitive experiences that children are exposed to, the greater the connections.   The early years, including Preparatory, at Sheldon College differentiate the curriculum via hands-on activities that support inquiry-based learning.  The advantage our College offers is that our multi-sensory approach to learning takes place within contexts with three key differences. Due to the College’s value system, we provide a truly safe, orderly learning environment which enables the achievement potential of all individuals to be maximised, with experiences being planned collaboratively by experts in specialist curriculum fields. Furthermore, all experiences for our younger students are planned with clearly defined student exit outcomes in mind. These high-quality contexts, combined with experiences skilfully targeted to specific stages of development, better support the brain development that is crucial in building the foundations for quality learning in later life.

The Preparatory program at Sheldon College offers a high calibre of teachers who day-in and day-out model the 3L’s of teaching – Love, Laughter and Learning, whilst also offering a program that consists of a balance of exploration, guided instruction and explicit teaching. Our Preparatory teachers instill in children an absolute love of learning as they are able to provide students with a rigorous academic program whilst still preserving the very essence of childhood.

  1. Would you know of schools that offer a Boxing scholarship? We live in Gladstone Central Queensland, my son. Jordy 14 years of age in grade Nine is quite reasonable with his school results, age champion every year. Three state titles and one National title.
