Trick or Treat: Halloween 2024 is on its way!

Now, I don’t know about you, but in our family the promise of getting dressed up in a costume and eating copious amounts of candy is just far too appealing to ignore, so for like-minded families,s we’ve thrown together a comprehensive list of the best kid-friendly Halloween events on and around the Gold Coast.

You could also get your kids into the Halloween spirit this year by teaching them the real meaning of Halloween.

Fright Nights at Movie World

Movie World is hosting Fright Night events on Friday and Saturdays through October, starting from 5 October. With terrifying rides, gory entertainment and killer clowns, be prepared to be scared witless!

You can choose your thrill level from mild to moderate or max, and there are plenty of upgrades to enhance the fun. The event is pretty creepy, and the advice on their website is that it’s not recommended for children under 14 so it’s definitely one for the older kids.

  • When: Saturday 5 October, Friday 11 October, Saturday 12 October, Friday 18 October, Saturday 19 October, Friday 25 October, Saturday 26 October, Thursday 31 October
  • Time: 6pm – 10:30pm (rides till 10pm)

Spooky Nights at Sea World

Halloween at Seaworld

Grab your broom sticks and cauldrons and cast a spell at Sea World Spooky Nights this October. Witness the Sea World Boo Crew’s Monster Mayhem Laser Lightshow, adventure through seven spooky precincts with a line-up of live entertainment, plus enjoy rides and exhibits at night!

  • When: Saturday 12 October, Friday 18 October, Saturday 19 October, Friday 25 October, Saturday 26 October
  • Time: 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Fang-tastic Family Night at Southport

This October, Sharks are putting on not one, but two of spooktacular Halloween Family Nights.

On Sunday 27 October and Thursday 31 October, the whole family can enjoy an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet dinner kicking off from 5pm, followed by an incredible Halloween-themed kids show hosted by LOL Crew from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

There’s free face painting throughout the night from 4:30pm to 7:30pm, and make sure to get the kids dressed up in their most ghoulish attire, as best dressed prizes will be awarded to those with the coolest costumes!

All tickets include seafood buffet admission.

Currumbin Wildlife Fangtuary: Currumbin

Prepare yourself for spook-tacular family fun, dress up in your scariest Halloween outfits, ride the ghost train, explore the haunted forest and shake off those spider webs at the kids dance party!

Your little monsters will love trick or treating after dark, amongst nature at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Don’t miss the street performers, jumping castle and fire twirling. It’s going to be truly terror-iffic!

Purchase VIP tickets for a whole host of perks that are to die for, including express entry, goodie bags and festive favourites. Be quick, this event sells out every year!

Dreamworld is about to become frightfully fun, as Happy Halloween returns on selected nights this October (be quick, some of them are already sold out!) Get the family into the scary spirit and enjoy all your favourite rides at night, plus a whole lot of eerie entertainment as you celebrate the spooky season.

Spooky Creations: Varsity Lakes (unconfirmed)

Come and join this Halloween-inspired school holiday workshop, perfect for children aged 6-12 years old! This workshop is led by a skilled creative arts therapist and blends art, play, and learning for a truly fun experience.

Kids are encouraged to dress in their favourite Halloween costume if they would like to add an extra touch of fun to the workshop.

Throughout the session, children will engage in captivating and entertaining activities. They will have the chance to unleash their creativity through Halloween-themed art projects using a variety of materials like paint, paper, and markers. These artistic endeavours not only foster creativity but also introduce them to different art techniques.

There will be fun party games and snacks too!

Halloween Disco: Coomera

An exclusive Halloween Drag Queen Bingo has arrived! This family-friendly event is not to be missed! Hosted by Vollie LaVont and ShuShu Funtanna, your favourite entertainers will keep you laughing all night long. Ticket includes a reserved table, a drink on arrival, 5 games of bingo with prizes to be won and an amazing night out.

Sunday 27 October

Halloween Light Party: Southport

The Southport Church of Christ is hosting their free annual Light Party; a Halloween alternative for children of all ages including a magic and circus show, sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting, petting zoo, games and activities and a lot more!

To keep this event friendly for all children of all ages, the Church requests that only non-scary costumes be worn.

Host your own Halloween Gold Coast street party

Halloween is the perfect occasion to get a neighbourhood street party together particularly if you’re not keen to venture too far afield but still want to have some Halloween fun. It doesn’t have to be huge and it’s easy to organise. Here’s how to host a Halloween Street Party.
