Faith Lutheran College Redlands is an Energised Learning Community which provides a quality educational environment with Christian values at its core as the foundation for students to progress through their education.

The College offers a caring and dynamic learning community that embraces innovation, service, global thinking, and excellence from Kindy to Year 12. Faith has strong extracurricular, music and sport programs, and our national award winning MyPath@Faith program and alternative pathways programs ensure students have multiple opportunities to achieve their personal best, as well as an Outside School Hours Care facility on site which also offers Vacation Care.

The Faith Difference

Pupils at Faith Lutheran College

‘The Faith Difference’ is experienced in the value of learning through play, flexible classroom environments to allow student choice and student voice, outdoor education, and the opportunity to nurture and support each and every child on the campus. The College is community minded and sees the learning journey as a partnership between parents, students, and teachers.

Faith families experience a strong commitment to learning, and feel their children living the values of Care, Commitment, Consideration, Common Sense and Courtesy. With a strong pastoral care program and a commitment to teaching ‘Contemporary Skills’ such as problem solving, critical thinking, sustainability, collaboration, design, analytical thinking as well as service of others, Faith is an integral part of the Redlands Community.

Sport and extra-curricular activities

Faith delivers athletic opportunities to students via the ‘Active@Faith’ Sporting Program. At the heart of this is a philosophy that creates an atmosphere of enjoyment, participation, fun, success, – being part of a community while providing genuine sporting pathways.

Active@Faith’ is made up of local sport club competitions, development squads and academies as well as access to Queensland School Sports carnivals and competitions under experienced coaches. Development and training is also available for senior students to attain coaching qualifications.

Faith is very proud to be home to several students who compete in sports at district, regional, state and national levels and takes care in nurturing these students to reach as far as they can go.

Music and the arts

Arts at Girls Faith Lutheran College

Music and Performing Arts options at Faith are extensive, including choirs, bands, ensembles, and private tuition as well as musicals. Both campuses offer dance ensembles and drama clubs, and visual art and culinary arts are also at the forefront during our Create@Faith Arts Week. We also heavily involve students in our behind-the-scenes operations with our Media and Tech crew at the Secondary campus.

The College most recently put on a spectacular production of ‘High School Musical On Stage!’ and the Junior School students also participated in a 10 week Passion Project to deliver 3 stage performances of popular Christmas stories for parents and students at the end of year.

Service and leadership opportunities

Outdoor activities at Faith Lutheran College

One of the unique strengths of Lutheran Schools are their Outdoor Education Programs.  Faith Lutheran College Redlands gives students from Prep to Year 12 an extensive range of opportunities to find their student voice, to have it valued as they grow and to become active contributors in the community life they share.

Faith Lutheran College Redlands provides the opportunity for all students to attend a 4-week program at Mt Binga Outdoor Education Centre near Blackbutt in Queensland, as the pinnacle of their Year 9 program. The Mt. Binga experience sees students take responsibility for themselves. With the assistance of specialist staff, students cook, wash, bake and even milk the cows. An extensive hiking program is part of the stay. Students learn to work together in community and grow into their emerging adulthood as a strong team, equipping them well for the Senior Secondary years.

At the end of this experience, we hold Ubuntu night, where the students reflect and report on their experiences and how this opportunity helped them to grow as leaders and as individuals.

Academic opportunities and pathways

Chess club, robotics, creation station, radio control club and book club are just a few of the interest clubs available for students to enjoy.

At our Secondary Campus, students in Year 8, 9 and 10 go through our new MyPath@Faith program, which in 2022 secured us the national ‘Australian Education Award for Innovation in Curriculum Design’.

An alternative to the traditional schooling format, MyPath@Faith offers almost 80 unique, 6-month long units that are highly specialised and transdisciplinary. All units are custom designed by our teaching and leadership staff to fulfil all necessary elements of the Australian Curriculum, while offering students the opportunity to learn about topics that are relevant and engaging to them. The courses are structured into 3 tiers of difficulty rather than year levels, and apart from certain set compulsory units, students are free to enrol in courses and move up and down through any of the 3 levels, in line with the level of challenge that will best allow them to learn and thrive.

For Senior students we also have partnerships for TAFE at School and other vocational programs. It is our aim to ensure that all students leave our care equipped with the tools they need and the guidance necessary to forge their own paths as they enter life after school.

Faith Lutheran College gives students a voice

A teacher and student at Faith Lutheran College

Faith Lutheran College Redlands believes that all teaching and learning should include student voice. Whether in our Primary School at our Link Road, Victoria Point Campus or in our Secondary School on Beveridge Road in Thornlands, you will find students actively involved in all areas of College life.

Students from all ages work with their teachers to assist in designing their own rich questions to help construct their individual pathways to learning. This inquiry-based approach has students at the heart and helps to cater for the individual differences that all learners have.

Students at the centre

Students learning outside at Faith Lutheran CollegeCollege assemblies on both the Primary and Secondary Campuses are student led.  Secondary Students actively approach staff to create the agenda each week for assemblies, which they lead from start to finish.

An active Student Leadership Program brings student voice to all areas of College life including Service Learning, Worship, Academic and Sporting. Student Councils meet weekly with the members of the College Leadership Team, to organise events and advocate for student issues.

Meet the Principal

Shane Altmann joined Faith Lutheran College Redlands as the Principal in 2017. Shane has been serving in schools for over 30 years including 15 years in leadership in Independent Schools in both Western Australia and Queensland. Mr Altmann believes that Learning and Community are the two pillars upon which successful schooling is built. He advocates strongly that all teaching and learning should be student centred. Shane has a passion for creating school environments that are welcoming and relaxed as well as flexible and contemporary. As a life-long learner himself, Mr Altmann believes that there are few higher callings than to work in schools in service of children and their learning.
