The Gut’s Role in Childhood Illness

We hear a lot about the importance of a healthy gut microbiome but what does this mean when it comes to your child’s health?

In celebration of the International Day of Immunology, join three of Australia’s leading researchers as they discuss the gut microbiome, its impact on childhood health & chronic illnesses, and what you can do to help your child have the best start in life.

Join our panel of gut microbiome experts featuring Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research Director of Discovery and QIMR Berghofer Mucosal Immunology Group Head, Associate Professor Severine Navarro; author and Director of the Deakin University Food & Mood Centre Professor Felice Jacka OAM; and University of Queensland, Frazer Institute Associate Professor Emma Hamilton-Williams. The renowned speakers will delve into their collective research on the role of the gut microbiome in childhood inflammatory conditions, autoimmune diseases, allergies and mental health and behavioural disorders, as well as the role that diet can play in their treatment and management. In addition to hearing the latest research, you’ll get practical guidance on the everyday things you can do to support your child living with illness, allergies or a chronic condition.

Younger guests will be entertained as well, with science activities and games to keep them occupied while Mums and Dads have their questions answered. And some lucky families will also get to take home a signed copy of â€˜There’s a zoo in my poo’ by Professor Felice Jacka OAM. This brightly illustrated children’s book takes the taboo out of poo and encourages kids to eat well.

Who should attend?
