Orchid Society Winter Show

John Oxley District Orchid Society Inc (JODOS) holds its Annual Winter Show in July each year in the Auditorium at the Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha. It is considered to be one of Brisbane’s premier orchid shows.

This will be an extravaganza of Species, Hybrid and Australian Native Orchids all on show from 24-25 July at Mt Coot-tha. It is held at a time when Cymbidiums are flowering in Brisbane and there are also strong displays of Cattleya, Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium and Oncidium hybrids as well as their species.

Setting up is on the Friday afternoon with judging on Friday night. The show concludes with presentation of prizes at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

On both days there are potting demonstrations twice daily, morning and afternoon. Cultural advice from some of Brisbane’s best growers is available all week-end.  There will be lots of orchid plants for sale at very reasonable prices.  This is a great opportunity to purchase plants to increase an existing collection or maybe purchase your first plants to start on this rewarding and interesting hobby.

Photographers can get some great photographs of orchid flowers, the bold, the beautiful, and the very unusual.

All the necessary potting requirements are available for sale.

Plus light refreshments and floral arrangements are available for purchase.

The Brisbane City Council runs a bus service to the Botanic Gardens.  There is off street parking with disabled parking right at the front door.
