Lei making at Adderton House

Join Artists and weavers, Maryann Talia Pau and Ranu James, to learn techniques found across various Pacific Island cultures. Children will make a lei for themselves and a gift to give, inspired by Maryann and Ranu’s artwork for A Fierce Hope. They will talk about compassion and empathy and their workshops at Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only hospice for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Maryann Talia Pau is a Samoan/Australian artist and master weaver who draws on her traditional heritage to make powerful statements about contemporary issues and life. She is a co-founder of the Pacific Women’s Weaving Circle and founder of One Million Stars to End Violence, an international weaving project established to raise awareness of all forms of violence.

Ranu James is a Papuan/Australian artist. Based on the Sunshine Coast, her family comes from Gaba Gaba on the central coast of Papua New Guinea. Originally a performer, her craft practice has grown from her recreation of traditional costumes and artifacts.

* Suitable for children aged five and over. Parents/Carers must remain with children during the workshop, please feel free to join in and make your own lei.  Parents/Carers accompanying children do not need to purchase a ticket for themselves.
