Gondwana Festival
Located within the stunning Scenic Rim, from Lamington National Park to Mt Barney National Park, the Gondwana Festival is a month-long celebration in March 2021 of some of the most precious and spectacular areas of the Queensland section of the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
The Festival includes guided walks, talks and wild adventures from the base camps (and luxury lodges) of Binna Burra Mountain Lodge and Park Tours, O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat and Mt Barney Lodge.
Over 180 million years in the making, today, the area known as the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia includes the oldest examples of the world’s ferns and conifers. Over 200 species of rare or threatened plant and animal species call these rainforests home, and you can find beech trees up to 3,000 years old.
Get your walking shoes and sense of adventure ready for March 2021. See the full program here or read on for details on some of the many family friendly events

Bush Bandicoots | 10am – 11:30am

A Wild time exploring the natural bushland where you will be challenged to pay close attention to your surroundings while you find and match items during a nature treasure hunt. The event will concentrate on the art of camouflage, through hide and seek style games and explore your creative side through building ant playgrounds and natural mobiles.

Water warriors | 1pm – 2:30pm

Join the water warriors team as they explore the creek system.  Share your creative flare and follow the natural flow of the stream by using natural materials to build river boats.  Dip your toes in and search for the wriggly, slippery creatures that lie below the surface.  As you search amongst the river rocks, you slow down and magnify in on the smaller lives around you and see there’s more going on in the creek than just flowing water.

Fireflies | 3pm – 4:30pm

It’s time to heat things up and let the flame of curiosity burn bright.  A session filled with embracing the curiosity around fire whilst teaching valuable safety practices.  Through nature games and bush exploration you will learn how to collect the right resources for fire building, how to build a fire and enjoy a fresh cooked healthy toasted treat.
