BLEACH Festival | Gold Coast
12 November, 2020
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until 22 November, 2020
The program invites you to be adventurous; to step into someone else’s shoes for an afternoon or evening; to escape from the everyday with an unexpected experience; to dive in, boots and all and have a good time. Whether that’s down at Burleigh Heads for sunrise performances, recitals at dusk, evening light installations or a drink at the BLEACH* bar; or over on Chevron Island where you can visit Club Chez Nous for cabaret, opera, music and more, or within the grounds of the Botanic Gardens where a special concert has been curated with works from one of the worlds finest living composers, Elena Kats-Chernin.
There’s plenty on offer over the 11 days with big and small experiences across a range of genres. Just like being at a good friends’ place for a dinner party, BLEACH* 2020 is your host and invites you to experience Gold Coast City through stories and images connected to this place.
Bring your littlies to the beach and join in the Bora Circle for some dancing, laughing and play with charismatic children’s performer, Lucas Proudfoot. Lucas’s high-energy musical performances, rich in Indigenous culture, will have your kids jumping for joy. A talented storyteller, Lucas plays guitar, didgeridoo and stomp box, and he’s even been a special guest of ABC Play School! Known for his fast wit and cheeky humour, Gold Coast local Lucas entertains and delights young audiences across Australia. Come along to these interactive sessions for some sunshine and good fun, and watch your kids frolic on the sand. Multiple shows on 20 Nov – 22 Nov.
First Light Last Light | Burleigh Heads
As the sun rises on the first morning, and sets on the last evening, share in a special one-off performance on the shores of Justins Park, Burleigh Beach. Performed by Luther Cora & Yugambeh Dancers.
- Thurs 12 Nov – 5am
- Sun 22 Nov – 6:20pm
Talgnai Light (To Shine) | Burleigh Heads
Wander the park as the sun sets and watch the Burleigh Hub transform with a series of specially commissioned light installations by Chloe Ogilvie. Inspired by that intangible something that draws us together, Talgnai creates an evocative space of warmth and wonder as day becomes night. 12-22 Nov after dark daily.
Welcome to the Bora on the beach in the heart of the Burleigh Hub. Traditionally an ancient ceremonial ground, the sand circle is a culturally safe and inclusive space for dance, music, storytelling, performance and yarning. You’re invited to sit, watch, participate or talk within the ring. Wake with the birds, and join us each morning at sunrise and in the evenings at sunset for music and dance rituals with Luther Cora. Throughout the day, there’ll be workshops in contemporary dance, song and weaving, and dance under the stars every night. For the full Bora program, go to the Festival website. From 1pm-7pm daily.
This is just a taste of what’s on offer. Be sure to head to the Bleach Festival website to find out more.
