Craft Classes in Brisbane

Craft Classes with Hands On Brisbane

Hands on Brisbane is an initiative of The Wise Foundation. They run a programme of craft classes & workshops which provides a fantastic opportunity for people to learn new skills, showcase local talent and add extra creativity to Brisbane.

Craft Classes for Adults & Children

The classes are hands on and are for adults and older children (each class has details of ages they are suited to). During the School Holidays they hold workshops for children too.

They are located in The Gardens Club which is on Gardens Point Rd in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, behind QUT Theatre and close to the River Stage.

We attended the ‘Wearable Clay Accessories’ Workshop with Kay Watanabe.

We turned up early as I had been told we could find great coffee at The Gardens Club. The Gardens Club is another initiative of The Wise Foundation and is a ’profit for purpose’ organisation. The coffee was awesome (as was the banana bread) and the location was lovely, overlooking the Botanic Gardens.

Where are the Hands On Brisbane craft classes held?

The workshop was held in one of the rooms of the restored, Curators Cottage (which is stunning – huge glass windows letting lots of natural light in and overlooking the Botanic Gardens). We sat around a large table and our materials and tools were ready for use. Our Presenter, Kay, was very welcoming and explained what the workshop was about. She walked us through each step of our jewellery making and made it feel very easy. It was a really relaxed atmosphere and actually very peaceful! I am not particularly skilled crafter and I was really happy with how my clay beads turned out.

A relaxing day out in Brisbane

Taking a workshop with Hands on Brisbane, to me, could be a really lovely bonding experience with your children, friends or family. Make a day of it and spend the day in the Botanic Gardens, they really are magical. There is street metered parking close by and lots of public transport.

Some of the other workshops they hold include – Relief Print Making, Bespoke Jewellery Making Techniques, Rag Rugs and Terrariums. They are adding new workshops all the time, so check their website for descriptions and booking details https://www.facebook.com/HandsOnBrisbane
