We know that when you have little people that need naps, you don’t always want to do a full-day trip.
You can still explore in half a day though, and there is so much to see and do from the Gold Coast train line! The best part is, you don’t even need a car as you can just jump on the train!

Days Out – Half Day Trips on the Gold Coast Train Line!
Caboolture Line | City Stations | Shorncliffe Line | Ferny Grove | Beenleigh
Easy (Green): A nice easy walk. Expect less than 6/7 minutes from station to the destination. Usually one or two very close destinations for a nice, relaxing half day out.
Medium (Yellow): Looking for a bit more of an adventure? These stations are usually no more than 15 minutes from their fun destinations. These stations often have multiple destinations too so there is tons of fun stuff to see and do!
Hard (Red): An adventurous day out. Expect longer than 15 minute walks from the station to the destination and there may be multiple destinations. A great choice for those who want to enjoy a good walk and have an active day out!
1 Varsity Lakes station – Easy
The initial walk from the train station was short as we made our way up the central road towards the lights. We spotted a small park hidden behind a row of tall shrubs across the road where there is a covered picnic area and small section of play equipment ideal for young children.
The walk took only a few minutes from the station and would be an ideal pit stop for children to have a quick drink and slip on the slide.
From here we took a right from the lights making our way up a slight hill which soon sloped down towards another set of lights, turning left into Bayswater Avenue. Here there is a larger section of play equipment hidden slightly amongst the trees with covered seating area and barbecue, waterlily filled pond teaming with birdlife, and a paved walkway which circles through the bush and around the water.
From the train station the walk took only about 5 minutes, making for an easy half day trip.
2 Robina station – Medium
In order to get from Robina Train Station to Robina Branch Library you will need to cross at a few sets of lights and make your way over a bridge following Robina Town Centre Drive. It takes approximately 10 minutes to make your way to the library but the walk isn’t too difficult.
There is a children’s section in which Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time and Story Time are held at various stages of the day each week. For detailed timetables visit the City of Gold Coast site. Note that you will have to book ahead in order to attend these sessions. Be sure to check out the art gallery while you are there.

3 Helensvale station – Easy
From the Helensvale Train Station you can expect to walk for 5-10 minutes to get to the library. The Helensvale Branch Library is easy to find by following the walkway to the street directly adjacent to the station. Follow it to the end and go beneath an underground walkway which leads to the Helensvale Plaza Shops and carpark.
The library has a lovely children’s section. The Helensvale Branch Library hosts Story Time, Baby Rhyme Time alongside art and craft activities at various times throughout the week. For more details visit the City of Gold Coast site.

4 Beenleigh station – Easy
From the station to Beenleigh Library you can expect the walk to take you around 5 minutes. Connected to the Beenleigh Events Centre, the library faces out onto a small park with a war memorial and shaded seating. Within the library there is an extensive range of books and by making use of the libraries free sign up policy for all ages you will receive a library card and access to book borrowing, computer use and Wi-Fi.
The children’s section is set in a prominent section of the library and they’ve created a welcoming space for kids to enjoy books with their family.
Free group activities for young children include family time activities such as baby rhyme time, toddler time and story time. When visiting the library pick up a free ‘What’s on’ brochure for more information.

5 Loganlea station – Medium
Sturdee Park is located a 5-10 minute walk from the Loganlea Train Station. Take a right and walk to the blue police station located at the corner. Turn left onto Haig Road, make a right at Keyes Street and left onto Dianne Street to find the park. There is an undercover seating area, large play area with multiple slides, and an off leash dog park at the other side. There are toilet facilities, BBQ points and basketball court with plenty of room to run around.
