Staycation Ideas: BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort – Hastings Point
Whether you want luxury or basic cabins, tidy camping sites or a place to set up your camper trailer or caravan, BIG4 North Star has it all. With a free kid’s club, a waterpark, playgrounds, clean amenities, onsite cafe and nearby shops, you’ll love this haven for families.
Will my children be entertained?
So much so that your kids will crash into bed at night and give you some peace and quiet. Don’t forget to pack your bikes and scooters for them to use in the grounds. And if you’ve got room, bring a kayak or stand up paddle board to use on the nearby Cudgera Creek.
As well as tennis, games room, pool tables and an outdoor playground, North Star has its own kids’ club. Neptune’s is an indoor play centre with ball pit, craft tables, monkey bars and slides. What’s especially exciting is the sessions are fully-supervised and free.
What is the waterpark and pool like?
Sammy’s Adventure Lagoon is a theme-park worthy waterpark. It comes complete with a maze of water slides and water cannons. Kids of all ages adore the big dripper, a 600-litre bucket that slowly fills with water and then dumps on willing or unsuspecting victims below.
Furthermore, it has features a swimming pool with dual slides that children love racing each other down. The water will cool kids off in summer, but it’s also heated in winter making this resort popular year round.
How are adults catered for?
Maybe you need a haircut or want a massage? Well this can be taken care of at North Star’s popular Seascape Leisure Centre. The adults-only luxury retreat offers massages, beauty treatments, a hairdressing salon and free use of 25-metre lap pool, temperature-controlled spas, sauna and gym.
And because the kid’s club sessions run for nearly two hours, you’ll have enough ‘me time’ to take a stroll on the beach, have a massage or a maybe even a siesta!
What are the facilities like?
If you’re camping there is a large undercover cooking area in the middle of the park with plenty of seating. Meanwhile, the bathrooms and toilets are clean and a step above most camping grounds we’ve come across.
For those who prefer a bit more comfort, there are even camping sites that have their own ablution block. This saves trips to the loo in the middle of night with tired and scared little ones.
All cabins and villas are fully self-contained with all the amenities. The luxury villas can sleep up to 10 people, have spa baths and are located across from the waterpark.
Is there food on site?
Yes, at Ripples Cafe, located near the waterpark. It’s a licensed venue that offers a well-priced buffet breakfast for those campers who want a morning off. The coffee is fantastic and it offers food throughout the day as well as lunch and dinner, including takeaway meals. A petrol station for the essentials is also part of the BIG4 North Star complex.
Are there activities to do nearby?
Just across the road is Hastings Point beach, popular with surfers and fishers and great for shell collecting. A short drive north and you’ll be at Cabarita, here you can get supplies from the supermarket and anything else you might need. There’s also plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
BIG4 North Star is nestled in between Hastings Point beach and the safe tidal estuary of Cudgera Creek. When the tide is going out your kids will love fossicking for crabs and swimming in the shallow waters.
In addition, during whale watching season (June through November) you’re just a short drive from some of the best vantage points on the Tweed Coast.
Is there entertainment at night?
Every Saturday night there is entertainment, whether it’s an open air cinema or a live show by a local entertainer. Movies are also shown in The Loft and they vary from G to PG.
Ripples also hosts a pop-up kitchen outdoors on movie nights and during special kid’s events during school holidays. It usually arrives at about 5pm and offers popcorn, ice-creams, fizzy drinks and hot chips.
Is it a safe holiday resort?
BIG4 North Star is spread over 10-hectares but it is well lit and has been designed to ensure children are safe in all areas. Cars slow for kids on bikes and scooters and it has a great community feel to it. And there is so much to do onsite that your kids are not likely to wander out of the park.
