Queensland University of Technology

Queensland University of Technology offers a Bachelor of Law (Honours) degree which is a higher-level qualification than a bachelor degree, as it has honours-level content integrated throughout the course from years 2 to 4. A general guide to entry cutoffs based on previous years is an ATAR of 87. If you achieve an ATAR/selection rank of 87.00 or higher (including any adjustments) and satisfy all other admission requirements, you are guaranteed an offer for this course. Pre-requisites for entry are a Year 12 certificate and its assumed you have knowledge of English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)

Annual costs for the 4-year full-time degree in 2023 are $15,200 (it is also available as a part-time degree over eight years). Course costs may vary depending upon units you choose to study.

University of Queensland

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is a four-year program designed to develop a high-level understanding of the law, along with personal and professional skills that can be transferred across a wide range of careers. Entry scores for the Bachelor of Laws at the University of Queensland based on previous years’ cut-offs is an ATAR of 97.5 or above. Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English (Units 3 & 4, C) is the only prerequisite.

The course is 4-years full-time or 8-years part-time. The annual fee in 2023 was $14,100. 2024 fees are yet be advised. Head to the UQ website for more information.

Griffith University

Griffith University offers a Bachelor of Laws at its Nathan and Gold Coast campuses. Entry requirements based on the previous year’s cut-offs are an ATAR of 82.00. High school English or equivalent is the only prerequisite for entry.

You’ll learn through hands-on experiences from year one. You’ll make connections between law and ethics, legal theory, Indigenous issues, and internationalisation. You’ll also develop understandings of law and legal work through courses that cover areas such as crime, contracts, property, and corporate law, torts, and law theories. 

Bachelor of Laws at Griffith University is offered over 4-years full-time or 8-years part-time. The annual fees for 2023 were $15,000. Fees for 2024 are yet to be advised.

University of Southern Queensland

The Bachelor of Laws degree is available as a distance education program through the Toowoomba campus and on-campus at Ipswich. The cut-off scores for 2023 were an ATAR of 76.35. High school English or equivalent is the only prerequisite for entry.

A law degree at USQ will qualify students to perform roles such as barrister, solicitor, public prosecutor, community lawyer, legal officer, or in-house counsel for large companies. It also opens up a wide range of career paths within the public service sector, government, politics, as well as non-government organisations and businesses.

Bachelor of Laws at USQ is a 3-year full-time or up to 6-year part-time degree. The annual fee in 2023 was $15,136 annually. 2024 fees are yet to be advised. Head to the USQ website for more information.

Bond University

Bond University’s Bachelor of Laws program requires an ATAR of 85 or higher. They also offer a University Preparation Program for students who do not currently have the required academic qualifications.

The degree prepares students for a career as a legal professional. It provides students teaching in essential areas of substantive law and access to a wide choice of law elective subjects. An integrated skills and professionalism program is embedded in the degree and focuses on core legal skills essential to the practice of law.

Bachelor of Laws at Bond University is an 8-semester program that can be completed over 2 years and 8 months of full-time study. 2023 fees are $16,200 per semester. In total, a Bachelor of Laws at Bond University is likely to cost you $129,600. 2024 costs are to be confirmed.

University of the Sunshine Coast

The Bachelor of Laws is a four-year program designed to develop an understanding of the law, along with personal and professional skills that will help in the future practice of law. Entry scores for the Bachelor of Laws at the USC based on previous years’ cut-offs is an ATAR of 70 or above. Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English (Units 3 & 4, C) is the only prerequisite. 2023 annual fees are $15,136. 2024 fees to be announced.

Didn’t get a high enough ATAR?

If your ATAR wasn’t high enough to study a Bachelor of Law at a Brisbane university, most universities offer alternative entry pathways to study a Bachelor of Law. These include:

  • Enrolment in a Bachelor of Justice Studies for a year, this will assist your child in getting a broader overview of law enforcement and after a successful first year, will improve their ATAR score.  If you’re worried about your child’s score, add Justice Studies as one of the lower preferences on your QTAC form.
  • Bridging studies to improve your entry rank
  • Entry based on degree-level study
  • Entry based on TAFE or by studying a certificate through a registered RTO
  • Alternative entry based on employment
  • Special tertiary admissions test
